“I’m here to free you. Blake will be here soon.”
“I don’t know if I can.” I motioned to the cuffs. “Plus, these don’t help.”
He took something out of his pocket and used it to pick the locks on the cuffs. I rubbed my wrists and Roan’s warm fingers rubbed the mark on my ankle. His touch was gentle. “Is that better?” he asked, his voice still low.
“Thank you.”
“Now shift, Kade.” My heart thumped at my new name on his lips.
“I’ll try.” I looked deep inside myself. Eye to eye with my wolf, I pleaded with them. We need to do this. Searching for that light, my gift in the locked away part of myself, I begged my wolf for their help. We have to! My wolf turned to me, with the same bright amber eyes as I saw in the mirror every day. The same red-brown fur that matched my real hair, and I saw them for what they were. Not other. Just me. Our foreheads touched, our eyes closed together, and the locks broke.
All at once I shifted, clothes ripping into shreds, leaving my wolf form where the man had been. Complete and whole, like The Luna had intended.
Roan gave me a wicked grin. “Perfect.”
