Aman tries to drag me but Rudra blocks my way. Now he’ll have it from me. I promise! All my attention halts on him as Rudra flashes his winning smile.

“Khushi and I got engaged, Aarav. Take this seriously and stop coming in our way.”

I laugh on his face. Aman and Rudra both stare at me, a bit confused by my reactions.

“What’s there to laugh at?” Rudra mutters.

“Nothing.” I hold my laughter. “I hope you know what you are getting into.”

That sounds more like a warning to him and Rudra is alarmed.

“What do you mean?”

My entire focus is on his face now.

“Means, she got engaged toyoubut gavemethe return gift.”

Rudra stares at me, puzzled until I loosen my tie and unbutton the top two buttons of my shirt so that he sees the love bite on my throat. The moment Rudra sees it, his eyes pop out in rage. I’ve finally been able to shut his mouth. He’s too shocked to even say a word. I place my hand over his shoulder, standing side by side to him.

“Doesn't matter if she has your ring on her finger, she has and she’ll give every right of a life partner only to me.”

Rudra grits his teeth but doesn't meet my gaze. He’s angry, annoyed, ashamed. Good.

“And yes.. I too have given her a similar memento of our passion on her body which I guess she’s hiding well from you. Wish you had known it earlier; this engagement drama and your heartache could have been saved. Anyway, congratulations, Rudra Singh. You have just got into a ditch where I’ll make sure you never come out from.”

Aman grabs my arm.

“Let’s go, Aarav.”

Yea. Let’s go. I have given Rudra enough tonight to think about.

**************

Aman drops me home after that heated revelation and open argument with Rudra at the hotel. He didn’t speak a word in the car and even followed me inside the AR Mansion which means he is not going to leave without giving me an earful. When I open the bottle of whiskey to pour in our glasses, Aman snatches the bottle from me and puts it away.

“I didn’t come here to celebrate, Aarav. What did you do out there? You showed Rudra that.. love bite? When did you even get one? I am seriously confused what is happening here? On one side you tell me Khushi, who is Jhanvi, is not ready to accept her real identity and on the other hand, she is giving you these hickeys?”

“Jealous?” I tease, and he simply rolls his eyes.

“I get them too from my wife. A lot more than you can even count, alright? I am not jealous but seriously, can you explain when did that happen?”

“Bangalore,” I murmur, a smile forming on my lips as I recall that very incident. It was our first kiss again after two years of solitude. I give Aman only the highlights of that moment when Khushi was drunk and I escorted her to the room where all this happened.

“She was vulnerable,” Aman adds as he hears me out. “And I can’t believe you took advantage of her.”

“She’s mine, dammit,” I yell. “Mine to hold, mine to touch and mine to devour. I didn’t kiss her first, she did, and that’s when I touched her and felt her up, which is why I am so sure she is my Jhanvi. No more details. If you want to demean me for that, you better leave.”

Aman rolls his eyes and exhales.

“Fine. But don’t you think you should have kept your mouth shut instead of blurting it out to Rudra? You do realize he is going to talk to Khushi about it right?”

“That’s exactly what I want, Aman. Let them fight and argue because that’s the only way she is going to keep coming to me.”

“She’s going to hate you for revealing this to her fiancée.”

“She’s my wife. Only I have a right on her. She can hate me as long as she wants, but I know she’s going to love me harder the day she acknowledges my place in her heart.”

Aman might not understand my point today but I don’t want to explain him beyond that. When Khushi returns to me as Jhanvi, everything else will fall back into its place.
