I like Cristiano a lot. And I don’t think being married to him would mean not being with Levi and Knox. Although he didn’t mention them, I can’t see him stopping the good thing we have going on when we’re all together for the sake of marriage. I’m sure he thought of me as a good candidate because of that.

There’s also the glaringly obvious fact that I like them all.

I do, but… am I seriously thinking about this?

How would it look to get married again so soon after Hunter? But fuck, who cares? I don’t have anybody to care about me now. Look at me. I’m working in a sex club because I had no hope and no one to turn to.

It’s five million dollars, Megan…

Pushing to my feet, I decide to head out. I don’t want to be here if I don’t have to be. And that kind of sums everything else up.

Why would I be here if I don’t need to be? If Cristiano can get me out of here, I should grab that offer by the reigns and ride the fuck out of hell.

I just don’t know if it would be as simple as that. After all, he’s Cristiano Rivera. I’d be married to a mafia boss for three years.

It could be jumping out of the frying pan and landing in the infernal flames of hell.

I change my clothes and head to my car, getting lost in my thoughts again when the cool night air floats over my skin.

I’m so deep in concentration I don’t realize someone is walking far too close behind me until it’s too late.

When a large hand clamps around my wrist, I whirl around, coming face to face with Chad, one of Bill’s crew of deranged henchmen. Abel and Dillon, the other part of the trio step out of the shadows and my body goes numb as they surround me.

What the hell are they doing here?

“What do you want?” I cry, trying to wrench my arm free. This shouldn’t be happening. I paid all that money earlier today. There shouldn’t be any problems at all. However, the ferocious look on Chad’s face tells me otherwise.

“The boss isn’t pleased you’re here fucking other men.” Chad’s gravelly voice tightens the knots in my stomach. “He thinks you can pay the rest of that debt by fucking him instead. So we’ve come to take you.”

“No, let me go!” I yank my arm away, but he tightens his grip on my wrist and secures an arm around my waist.

Frantically I glance back to the door I came from, hoping someone will see what’s happening to me. But nobody comes out, and nobody probably will. This is the staff parking area and most of the people working will be in the club until the early hours of the morning.

A van pulls up with another one of Bill’s henchmen at the wheel. The moment I see him, I know I’m screwed.

“Let go of me!” I scream, but Chad covers my mouth and drags me toward the van.

When he lifts me off the ground, I realize I can’t escape. I have no energy, no hope, no chance. Tears of desolation pour out of my eyes as the van door flies open. Just then, the sound of a gunshot rips through the night and something wet splashes on me.

Chad’s hand falls from my mouth and his hold on me loosens.

I fall to the ground at the same time he does and I see he’s been shot in the head and that wetness I felt was blood. It’s on me.

More shots fire and Dillon and Abel jump into action. I scramble away to safety, the gravel on the path scraping my knees.

I get behind a blue Ferrari and that’s when I see Cristiano running down the path with his gun raised.

He kills Dillon and Abel when they rush forward and the guy in the van doesn’t even get a chance to drive away. A bullet lodged in the back of his head just as he gunned the engine.

Cristiano rushes to my side, gathering me up in his arms. Tears of relief flow from my soul as he holds me, but the weight of what nearly happened fractures my mind and breaks me.

At that moment, I realize I was never going to be free.
