I shrugged. “I wasn't there, so I don't know. But I think it makes sense."

“Did they grab me then?"

"No. You insisted on celebrating my birthday. You ordered me cake. And then you made me dance to Stevie Wonder."

His gaze went soft. “I love that album. It was Charlie's. All of the albums were his. Since he died, I play them a lot when I’m missing him."

“Yeah, you told me that." I gave him a soft smile and continued. "And I don't know… One thing led to another. And then… We shagged."

“You say that so easily as if it wasn't a big deal."

"Oh boy," I muttered. “Is this the part where you want me to rave about your very big dick and that you kept me busy for hours and then I could barely walk after?"

“It depends. Is any of that true?"

A hot flush crept up my neck. “Yes, actually."

He perked up then. “I must have really liked you. I don’t take women to that flat."

“You said that, too."

“You know, maybe we should have all the conversations that we had then. Just so I can catch up."

"Sorry. This is probably so disorienting.”

"Sounds like we had one of those kismetnights."

I frowned. "What's a kismet night?"

"Oh, I didn't tell you about this?"

I shook my head.

"Charlie used to think of all those perfect nights in the movies as kismet nights. Whenever he thought he’d met the girl of his dreams, he always described it as a kismet night. Though it didn't work out until he met his fiancée. She was who he would have married, I think."

"That's sad."

“Yeah, she's married now with a kid. I’m glad she was able to find love again. Most people don't get that chance. She was a good friend. Anyway, he called those kismet nights."

“You know, I like it. And it did feel like that, but…"

His gaze sharpened on me. "What do you mean, but? You're not like pregnant or something, right?"

I blinked at him, and then a laugh sputtered out. "Oh my God, no. Can you imagine the disaster?"

His brow furrowed. “It wouldn't be that bad, would it?"

"Coming back pregnant? There is no way Gabe would have let that fly, ever. He would have hunted you down."

“You know what, I believe it."

I shrugged. "Anyway, I… left."

He lifted a brow. "What do you mean?"

“I'd been there, till... I don't know. It was four in the morning maybe. And I had to go before you woke up."

His brow furrowed. “You just left? No goodbye or anything?"
