Dyrk watched, his eyes wide as his father traced a D shape over his chest.

“Where is she?” he asked in a small voice.

“She thought you ran away into the woods,” Ra’as said quietly. “But that’s not your fault.”

“Emilia is in the woods?” Dyrk whispered in horror.

Ra’as nodded, wishing his son didn’t need to know.

“I want to come with you,” Dyrk said.

“It’s too dangerous,” Ra’as told him. “I’ll be much faster on my own. But you have my word that I will do whatever it takes to bring her back.”

“Find her, Dad,” Dyrk said, his eyes glowing brilliantly, as if his own Kotenka nature was ready to emerge.
