“Ohhh-kay,” she said, closing her eyes and wondering what in the world was going on.

“Open them,” Mimi whispered.

Ra’as knelt before her, holding up a slender golden band with a single emerald set in it.

“Emilia, will you make me the luckiest man under the suns?” he asked, his voice deep with emotion.

Emilia was frozen with joy, unable to make a sound.

“Say something,” Dyrk whispered.

“Say yes,” Mimi whispered.

Ra’as’s pale blue eyes were still fixed on hers, his smile kind and patient.

“Yes,” she said, her voice coming back to her at last. “Yes, yes, yes.”

He slid the ring onto her trembling hand, and they all looked at it.

The brilliant green winked in the light of the suns.

“It’s beautiful,” she murmured.

“We chose it together,” Ra’as said quietly. “The kids and I.”

Hot tears ran down her cheeks before she even realized she was crying.

“Emilia, are you sad?” Mimi asked, sounding concerned.

“No, my love, I’m so happy,” Emilia sobbed. “Sometimes, grownups cry when they’re happy, too.”

“Grownups are weird,” Mimi said, and began to giggle, which started Dyrk up, too.

Then Emilia was crying and laughing at the same time, as Ra’as swept them all up in his strong arms, holding them close like he would never let them go.
