Ra’as

Ra’as strode away, cursing himself inwardly.

For a minute there, he’d been about to kiss her. He had wanted to very badly, and had been barely able to stop himself.

Especially when she was gazing up at him with those soft eyes, the pleasant scent of her wafting up to him seductively.

But she was younger, and she was his employee. Both issues made kissing her a non-starter, let alone any of the other things he had been picturing doing to her.

And damnit, she had only been working for one day, and she was already fantastic with the kids.

Ra’as, get it together.

He would not run her off. He would not ruin it for them.

And that meant he was going to have to keep himself on a short leash. No more thinking about her, or going to her rooms in the evening, no matter how innocent his reasons.

Though he still couldn’t figure out why the hell he would want to kiss her anyway.

Emilia was way too young for him, and he had never had any interest in younger women. And besides, they had nothing in common, and she was definitely not his type.

I need a consort, he reminded himself. It’s just a physical thing. It has nothing to do with her, or with me.

He sighed and tapped his bracelet. When the hologram appeared, he swiped through the menu and clicked on his personal account to see if the agency had made arrangements.

Somehow the idea of using a consort repelled him, but he wasn’t doing himself or Emilia any favors by resisting what his body clearly needed. One quick date, and he would be himself again and neither of them would be bothered by his involuntary desires.

Then he would just have to stay on top of arranging regular dates, so it didn’t happen again.

He was both relieved and disappointed to see that the agency had indeed sent him a profile match. A picture and profile rundown popped up.

Chancy Best - Race: Cerulean

Available - Tomorrow night

Her picture was nice enough, she was full figured and cheerful looking, with smooth, blue skin. And though she wore a bit more paint than he normally liked, beggars couldn’t be choosers. She was available tomorrow night, and he clearly needed relief.

Clicking through to accept, he opted for the service to drop her at the house so he wouldn’t have to go through any extra hoops.

In his experience, though consorts enjoyed a nice dinner out as much as anyone else, for the most part they wanted to do their work, be paid, and go home. It was an attitude he appreciated, and he hoped Chancy Best would take his efficiency as a tribute to her professionalism, and not think he was cheap or unromantic.

Satisfied that he had solved his problem quickly, he closed his comms and headed to his office, his mind filled with a renewed determination to leave the poor nanny alone.

Even if the needy expression in her eyes still crackled in his blood like wildfire.
