Emilia

A few hours later, the kids were tucked in bed after a lovely meal and a story.

Dyrk had even sat on the edge of Mimi’s bed with Emilia to hear some of the funny stories. And though he stayed quiet at first, by the end, he was laughing at the punchlines.

He was coming around to her, bit by bit, and Emilia felt proud that the angry boy was able to let his guard down and be a kid with her sometimes.

Now, after a long day, she was back in her room at last. It was peacefully quiet after a day running around with the kids. Her holo-reader was charged and waiting on her bedside table, and the gigantic bed looked fluffy and welcoming.

But somehow, she couldn’t bear to lie down.

So, she was pacing the floor in her nightie and wishing she had a way to hypnotize herself into thinking about something other than Ra’as Drayven and the way his eyes had looked when he’d thanked her for helping his children.

Maybe you could help them yourself if you weren’t so busy getting your rocks off.

She tried and failed not to think about him with that woman, all over each other. What did he do with his tail while he was fucking her?

Obviously, she would never know.

She glanced at the clock.

It was nearly midnight, and she had to be up by six to be sure she was ready to rock and roll when the kids woke up.

She decided to head downstairs and make herself some hot chocolate. Surely the warm, comforting beverage would calm her down and make her sleepy.

By now everyone else in the household would be asleep, so she didn’t bother changing clothes. She would pad down to the kitchen, whip up a mug of chocolate, and be back up here reading in five minutes.

For the first time in hours, she felt a whisper of relief.

The house was dead silent and dark as a tomb. She crept down to the second floor and paused on the landing, willing herself not to glance over at Ra’as’s rooms to see if the lights were out.

But her curiosity won out and she was happy to see there was no light escaping from under the doors.

That still doesn’t mean his date is over…

She scurried down the rest of the stairs to the first floor and headed into the kitchen, determined to distract herself with chocolate.

Unlike people, chocolate was one thing that never disappointed.
