She offered him her hand and he reveled in the feel of her small wrist encircled in his fingers.

Clenching his jaw against the purr that tried to escape his throat, he touched his bracelet to hers.

As soon as it buzzed, he let go of her as if she were made of fire.

“Thank you, Mr. Drayven,” she murmured.

But she didn’t move.

Time seemed to slow. He could see each mote of dust floating in the air between them, could hear the catch of her breath.

He had fought an epic battle with his own desire, but it was all for nothing. She was here. He needed her.

She ducked her head and moved toward the door just as his resolve broke.

“Thank you again,” she said quickly, before slipping out.

He stood, frozen as her footsteps disappeared down the hall.
