Emilia awoke feeling incredible.

She opened her eyes to find her room suffused with brilliant sunlight.

Good grief. She had slept until both suns were up.

She sat up quickly, panicking for a moment, until she remembered it was the weekend, and she wasn’t supposed to be on duty.

And then she also remembered what happened last night, and fell back on her bed to stare at the ceiling in total awe.

Holy hand grenades…

She thought back to the club with April, to her drive home, and finally to the moment Ra’as had stopped her in the dark foyer and taken her to the library.

The memory of his hands and mouth on her had her body heating up and her heart throbbing all over again.

Sun gods, he’s good in bed.

Except they hadn’t been in a bed.

She got up, grabbed some clothes and wandered into the bathroom in a haze.

Under the pounding hot water, she let herself think about Ra’as again. Why hadn’t he let her touch him?

He had said he was being a gentleman because she’d had something to drink, but surely Ra’as Drayven was no gentleman.

She thought back to the way he had insisted she remove her own clothing, and began to realize maybe he was a little gentlemanly after all. He had made sure she really wanted everything before he acted.

But now that it was morning again, what was going to happen?

She cringed at the memory of the condescending way he looked at her the morning after they kissed in the kitchen.

And today would hurt far more, because they had done so much more than just kiss.

But he had been different afterward last night, tender and almost caring - not running from her like he’d done something wrong.

She found herself hoping that maybe things would be better today.

Dressing quickly, she decided to head downstairs right away. There was no point prolonging the inevitable, or trying to guess how Ra’as would respond to her. It was better to rip off the bandage quickly than to prolong the suffering.

But when she got downstairs, the house was silent.

It was midday already, surely the children would have been up long before now.

She padded into the family room, but it was empty.

She headed into the kitchen, and spotted a note on the refrigerator.

Made pancakes, left some for you in the fridge. There’s a headache potion in the hall cupboard if you need it.

Taking the kids out to shop and say hi to their grandmother so you can have the house to yourself for a while.

Back for dinner.
