Ra’as

Ra’as’s pulse pounded a drumbeat in his veins, calling on ancient instincts it took everything he had to repress.

“Dyrk,” he said in a thunderous voice.

“I know, I know,” Dyrk muttered. “Go to my room.”

“No,” Ra’as yelled. “You’re not going to your room to play with that gamepad and all your other stuff. Go to my room.”

Dyrk lurched off to the stairs in his usual morose way.

Clearly starting a physical confrontation at the most prestigious school on Ulfgard hadn’t required him to become any more energetic.

Ra’as spun on the recalcitrant nanny.

Emilia stood in the center of the foyer, her head held high.

“And you,” Ra’as roared. “Ever since you came here, Dyrk has been acting out. First, he’s incredibly rude to my colleague, now a fight at school. And you wanted to lie to me about it?”

“I didn’t want to lie,” she said in a clear, calm tone. “I thought you were coming in late, and I wanted to talk to you after you’d had a good night’s sleep. I didn’t want Dyrk further traumatized by your anger.”

“Further traumatized?” Ra’as echoed sarcastically, feeling even more furious than before. “I just got a call that he beat up some kid at his school. He’s not traumatized. He’s a spoiled little brat that thinks life has no consequences. And you indulging him is making things worse. You’re fired, Miss Robbins. Get your things and get out of my house.”

And though he could see tears in her eyes flashing like diamonds, she nodded once and walked calmly up the stairs without saying another word.
