KHALL

Khall awoke to the delicious scent of coffee and something sweet.

Coffee?

April. Sweet sun gods, April.

It all came rushing back to him, and he buried his nose in his own sheets, drinking in her fading scent.

Everything about her was perfect, her kindness, her beauty, her exquisite taste.

And the fact that she had slipped out of his bed before the kids could find her here? And made coffee?

Gods, but he felt a lightness in his chest like he was falling in love.

Pull it together, Rivvor. She’s too young for you.

But the taste of her was still on his tongue and he craved more, like a wild beast.

He was already trying to justify things in his mind. Maybe harder life experience had given her wisdom beyond her years. Maybe she did just want to hang out with the kids all day and share his bed at night. And maybe he could make her happy in places besides the bedroom.

His own youth had been a tapestry of adventure, excess and regret.

But at the time, he wouldn’t have wanted to skip all that. He couldn’t take that from April. She had the right to make all her own flamboyant mistakes before settling down, just like he had.

Maybe that’s what I am to her. A mistake.

The thought was sobering. He tried to hold onto it as he showered. But beneath the hot spray, he could only think of the sounds she had made under his mouth.

The vision made him groan in frustration, his body ready to follow his imagination back to April.

He tried to take his own relief, but his own hand felt calloused and rough compared to the velvet of April’s sweet sex, and he knew his release would be empty and unsatisfying.

When it was done, he hurriedly finished washing up, and chose to pull on jeans and a t-shirt and go to her without bothering to shave. The earlier he got out there, the more likely they could talk before the girls were up.

But when he reached the hallway, he could already hear her talking and laughing with Minerva and Bo. Upbeat music played as dishes clattered. And he smelled something heavenly in addition to the coffee.

His stomach rumbled threateningly, and he picked up the pace.

“Hi, Daddy,” Bo yelled. “We’re making French toast.”

“That sounds incredible,” he said, smiling at the sight of her happy little face, even though he had no idea what French toast was supposed to be. “But isn’t this April’s day off?”

“She invited us,” Bo said happily.

“Morning, Dad,” Minerva said, looking pleased with herself as she flipped over a slice of bread in a pan.

“Good morning, Minerva,” he said. “Good morning, April.”

“Good morning, Captain Rivvor,” April replied softly.

The way she used his title made his cock twitch in spite of the punishing he’d given it in the shower.

“Khall,” both girls corrected her.

“Khall,” he said, nodding.

Her cheeks darkened like before, and she nodded.
