“He only wants me because of who I am,” he shrugged.

“Exactly,” she said. “Doesn’t that make you feel amazing?”

“I did a couple of things in the war,” he said wearily. “I was in the right place, at the right time to do some good, that’s all. Anyone else would have done the same. And it was my job.”

“You know everyone has seen the footage, right?” April said. “The way you handled that craft, no one else could have done it.”

“So, I pulled off a trick or two,” he admitted. “Most of the fame is from that damned calendar.”

She tried and failed to hide a smile. Then her cheeks went pink again.

“You think that photo is why he wants to hire you?” she asked, and then giggled.

“If that’s what he wants you to wear, it might be a little distracting,” Minerva said, her eyes dancing with laughter.

“What is everybody talking about?” Bo demanded.

“Dad is a little bit famous because of the war,” Minerva said quickly. “He doesn’t want to take a job if they are only offering it to him because he’s famous. Right, Dad?”

“Couldn’t have said it better myself,” he agreed.

“But you’re still going to take it, right?” Minerva asked.

She looked excited about it and for a moment he let himself soak in just a little of the pride that she and April felt for him.

“I haven’t decided yet,” he said.

He found that for the first time, he actually was feeling undecided.
