“Bo next,” April called down to her. “I’m going to swing her out so she can’t miss.”

Minerva nodded and backed up, holding out her arms.

“I’m gonna fly,” Bo confided, allowing April to take both her hands.

“On three, okay, Bo?” April said, her voice shaking.

With her heart in her stomach, April lifted the little one and swung her out.

“One, two,” she swung her. “Three.”

Bo let go and shot like a rocket down to the deck of the airship. She fell on her bottom but got up immediately with a big grin on her face.

“I’m on an airship,” she sang out.

Minerva took her hands and backed them up.

April had thought jumping would be the hard part. But being separated from the girls was worse.

She jumped without thinking, the air lifting her hair and billowing under her shirt.

The deck came up to meet her and she landed in a hard crouch as both girls cheered.

Before she could straighten up, there was a thunderous crash behind her as D’agryx landed hard. He straightened up and grabbed her arm, letting the laser blade lick her ribcage.

“No more noise,” he hissed.

“What’s that?” Bo asked, pointing at the sky.
