YASMINE

Yasmine awoke to the chirp of her comms.

She felt relaxed and rested, but also disoriented. Why were her comms still on her wrist? Why was it so bright?

She opened her eyes and gasped, sitting up quickly.

I’m in the Ruler’s bed.

Last night came back to her in a thunderous flash.

She had come here to resign, and ended up making out with the ruler of the planet and falling asleep in his bed.

What have I done?

She remembered her shamelessness and felt her cheeks go hot. She had never behaved that way before. She had wanted him so much. It had been like she was possessed.

She pulled her open dress closed around herself and looked around.

There was no sign of the Ruler, that made things a little less embarrassing.

As silently as she could, she slipped out of his gigantic bed, grabbed her panties off the floor and tiptoed to the door.

But when she looked down at herself, she realized she couldn’t sneak out half-dressed, even if it was barely dawn. The palace was full of busy employees. Someone would spot her and then…

Well, she didn’t know what then, but she could envision a lot of terrible scenarios.

She padded back to stand in front of the mirror against the far wall so she could see to refasten her bra and line up the slide of her dress.

Though there were no lights on, the wall of windows filled the room with the pink light of dawn. She had no problem seeing the wanton look of satisfaction on her face, her tousled hair, and her half naked body reflected back at her.

And even though she knew she should be ashamed, she couldn’t squelch the little thrill of delight that shot through her.

Whatever happened next, no one could take last night away from her.

Though he might have spoiled me for all other males.

She thought back to the crazy things he’d done with his mouth, and then her comms buzzed again, reminding her that she had a job to do.

“His kids, sweet Rings, his children,” she moaned to herself as she dressed as quickly as she could.

As soon as she was reasonably put back together, she went to the door to the corridor and eased it open as slowly as she could.

She had no idea if there were security feeds in the Ruler’s bedroom, but she was fairly certain there were feeds in the halls. Was someone monitoring them?

She couldn’t exactly go out the window, so she would have to hope not.

Moving quickly but as calmly as she could, she slipped out and gently closed the door.

She held her breath until she reached her side of the hall, then rushed into her room and closed her own door behind her, leaning back on it to catch her breath, heart pounding.

Once she was safely back in her room, other questions began to arise.

Am I supposed to take the kids today, or did he accept my resignation?

If he didn’t, hasn’t Mrs. Slaite fired me by now?

She pulled up her comms to see if she had messages from anyone at the palace.
