It would certainly catch more attention than Pia’s plain circlet. That was a good thing.

She headed back to the hall to wake Jax, but when she knocked on his door, he stepped out right away.

“Oh,” he said, looking at her hat. “Wow.”

“Pia wanted me to have something on my head today,” she explained.

His eyebrows went up and he shook his head, then headed wordlessly down for breakfast. She probably looked pretty funny, but that was kind of the point.

“Did Daddy say you can wear that?” Pia’s little voice asked as she trotted up the stairs with her muffin.

“Well, he’s not here right now, is he?” Yasmine said, winking. “Do you think anyone will be looking at your circlet now?”

Pia shook her head with wide eyes.

“Then it’s perfect,” Yasmine declared. “Do you think the cook has another muffin down there for me?”

“Yes,” Pia said excitedly. “Today, all the muffins are big.”

Yasmine smiled, glad the kitchen was figuring out what would make the kids happy.

They headed down together, all of Pia’s sorrow seemingly forgotten.

Yasmine thought she was starting to get the hang of this nanny thing.

Too bad it was probably too late.
