I laughed and kissed the back of her hand. “I know, but that’s how it sounded.”
“Men,” she muttered.
“So, last day tomorrow, what’s the plan?”
She laid her head back down on my chest and didn’t say anything for several minutes. I stroked her hair while we cuddled together.
A part of me wanted this with her every night. This week with her had been amazing, and I didn’t want it to end. Maybe it was too soon to feel this way about her, but there was something about Gemma that made me feel like I could have it all. Because she was worth it.
“Felix?” she asked.
I looked down at her, and she gave me a worried look. “Hmm?”
“Did you hear a word I just said?”
“Sorry. I got into my own head.”
“I want to get some of the cleaning done tomorrow, so we’re not rushing around on Sunday. Then maybe do a hike. There are great walking trails around the lake. Or we can go to the nature preserve.”
“Let’s go out to dinner,” I said.
“We don’t have to.”
“Let me rephrase that. Let me take you out to dinner.”
She gave me a curious look. “Why?”
“Let me take you out on that date I promised you.”
She shook her head. “That’s okay.”
“But, I want to.”
Her smile lit up her entire face. “Okay.”
“I owe you that.”
“Okay, but we don’t have to go anywhere fancy. You know I’m good for pizza and beer.”
I laughed. “I know, but I want our last night together to be special.”
“Me too.”
I pressed my lips against hers in a soft kiss. She let me take the lead as I savored the feeling of her lips on mine. Kissing Gemma was like coming in from out of the cold. I didn’t want to stop kissing her or think about how lonely I’d be without her after this week.
I pulled away, and she got up to turn off all the lights. She slid back into bed and curled onto her side. I wrapped an arm around her waist and held her against my chest. We fell asleep wrapped in each other’s arms.
As I was drifting off to sleep, the last thing on my mind was that the Poconos had put a spell on me, and I didn’t want it to be broken come Sunday.
