“How’s the tofu?” she asked.

“Good. You want to try?”

She nodded.

I cut off a piece for her and got some quinoa on my fork. I held it out to her, and she leaned over to take a bite of it.

“Mmm, that’s good. I’m not one for tofu either. Want to try my pork?”

“Sure.”

She fed me a piece of her pork tenderloin and the risotto it came with. It was all very romantic.

This was the perfect first date, and I wished I never stood her up last year. Maybe if I had explained how complicated my life was, we could have made it work. I needed to find the words to tell Gemma how I felt. If I was honest with myself, I didn’t fall for her in only a few short days. I fell for her the moment I saw her bright pink hair behind the bar at the brewery. And I didn’t want to imagine my life without her.

We devoured dinner and talked about Gemma’s plans for the brewery. Her eyes lit up with excitement as she spoke, and it put a smile on my face. No one else was suited for the marketing director job, which was why Declan had been so hard on her to take it. He saw the best in everyone and wanted to bring it out in them. Still, he could be a pushy asshole sometimes.

After we ate, we sipped on coffee and shared a slice of cheesecake for dessert. It was the perfect ending to a perfect date and the best vacation I’d had in a long time. I didn’t realize how much I needed to relax. I loved my sister, and I’d always be her keeper, but it was tough being the provider and doing it all on my own.

I paid the bill while Gemma finished up her coffee. She looked contemplative, and I wanted to know what she was thinking. I wondered if she was thinking about how she couldn’t let me go, either. We had agreed to one week only, but I wanted more.

“Ready to go, sweet thing?” I asked.

She nodded.

I put a hand on the small of her back and led her out to my car. I leaned her up against the passenger side door before letting her get inside. She peered up at me in surprise with her big blue eyes. I framed her face with my hands and gave her a slow kiss with the promise of more.

“Can’t wait to get you out of this dress,” I whispered.

She gave me a naughty smile and ran a hand down my chest. “So what’s taking you so long? Let’s get out of here.”

“Patience, you brat. We’re doing it on my terms.”

She whimpered. “Felix!”

I gave her another quick kiss. “Okay, get in the car, and let’s roll.”

I don’t think I’d ever seen her move that quickly before.
