I took my sister into her bedroom and set her down on the bed. She laid down and propped her leg up on a pillow.
“Call me if you need anything. I’m here,” I said and gave her a kiss on top of her head.
“Fe-fe?” she asked in a meek voice.
“Yeah, half pint?”
“Thank you for always taking care of me.”
“You’re my sister. It’s my job.”
She chewed on her lip again, and seemed like she wanted to say something, but then she shook her head instead.
“I’m gonna lay down. It was a long day of driving.”
I went into my room and finally plugged my phone into the charger, but I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. In the back of my mind, I knew there was something important I had to do, but I couldn’t remember what. I was too tired to remember before I drifted off to dreamland.
