“What?” She put her hands on her hips. “A bunch of crazy undergrads?”

“No,” I shook my head, stepping closer to her, almost to the point where I’d be whispering in her ear. “You in action.” I said, and when she looked up at me, that lovely grin affixed on her face, I knew this was going to be fun. “It’s only fair, you know, after you crashed my class.”

“I didn’t—” she huffed. “Okay, well. Bus leaves at nine am sharp tomorrow morning. We’ll meet in front of the dorm.” She pointed a finger at my chest. “Don’t be late.”

I nodded. “I won’t be.”

“For some reason, I believe you.” She then pulled something out of her pocket and handed it to me.

I looked down at the slip of paper, at the writing that was on it. “In case you need it, or whatever,” Noelle said.

“Had you already…”

She looked sheepish. “Look—it’s normal to give friends your phone number. So. I may have been planning on coming to find you if I didn’t see you.” Noelle shrugged. “Don’t make a big deal about this. It’s not like I was going to stalk you.”

I laughed. “No, because I’m the one who always does the stalking, right?”

She nodded solemnly like this was a very serious topic. “Exactly.”

“I’m glad I ran into you,” I smiled.

“Me too.” Noelle flashed me another one of her sunshine-filled smiles. “I’ll see you in the morning, alright? Bundle up, sounds like it’s going to be chilly tomorrow. But hopefully it won’t rain.” She crossed her fingers.

“Alright,” I nodded in response, and then she was off, shouting a quick, “Bye!”

And that was when I realized, standing in the middle of the quad, what exactly I had signed myself up for tomorrow.

A day with Noelle, sure—but also a day with dozens of her residents. And, potentially, students.

Hopefully none of mine.
