Lord, please may Moore follow me and leave Hoffman alone.She sprang out the door. In front of her, in the center of the courtyard, was a thick oak tree. Danni took cover behind it.
Moore burst into the yard seconds later. She guessed his gun was fully loaded now.
“You can run but you can’t hide.” He sprayed the tree.
All Danni could do was stay on the other side of the tree as bullets splattered into the thick trunk.
Suddenly he paused. Danni rolled to the other side of the tree and saw him wrestling with a gun jam, working to clear it. She fired twice, and he ducked back into the house.
Danni pressed the trigger again but got only a click. The slide locked open. The gun was empty.
She lurched back behind the tree. Pounding footsteps indicated Moore was back outside once more. He started firing again, laughing maniacally. “I got you now.”
