The Cheetah Clubwas only a few miles from the clinic. Daisy had told me her friend’s fiancé owned the place. Although the outside was simple brick and mortar without a lot of flash, the inside was incredible. A large dance floor occupied the center of the main room with rich wood bars and beveled mirrors lining the perimeter. Surveying the space, I could see they’d spared no expense in making the dance club look classy and luxurious.

The place appeared to be just getting started for the night with the staff bustling to get ready and the first few patrons trickling in. I wondered if a Wednesday night would be busy. Except for the one I’d stopped into with Lucas after the wedding from hell, I hadn’t been out at a club in years. Hell, even in college I’d spent most nights in study halls rather than out with friends.

“You must be Brooke,” came a feminine voice behind me.

Turning, I blinked at the sexy woman who’d addressed me. Her long blond hair was in a braided ponytail down her back, and her dramatic makeup and leather pants added to her allure. “Yes. Are you Tory?”

A smile spread over her face. “I am. Nice to finally meet you.”

“Same.” I’d heard so much about her from Daisy it felt as though I already knew her.

“Daisy should be here any minute. But in the meantime, I have a private booth upstairs reserved for us.”

“Sounds great.” I followed her upstairs to what I assumed was the VIP area. The décor became more opulent and the lighting darker. She led me to a seating area consisting of a half-moon leather bench with a low table in front of it.

“What’s your poison?” She handed me a cocktail menu as we both sat down.

“I’ll have a Scotch neat.” It was my drink of choice even if it did remind me of the night I’d met Lucas.

Smiling, she signaled a handsome waiter who suddenly appeared from nowhere. “One Scotch and one bourbon neat.” After ordering, she turned. “How are you enjoying LA so far?”

We made small talk for a few minutes while the drinks were delivered. I inquired about her daughter, who Daisy had told me was now in remission from leukemia. She asked questions about my new job before we settled into talk about the club.

“I love your place. It’s classy, sexy, and modern.”

She beamed. “I can’t take credit as my fiancé is the owner, and this place is his vision, but I’ve influenced some of the new designs.”

“It would be a good place to have Daisy’s bachelorette party.” I realized too late what I’d revealed when her eyes got wide.

“When?”

“Um, soon—I hope. But please don’t say anything until it’s official.”

She shook her head. “I would never say a word. But I’m excited.”

“Me too. I’ve never seen my brother happier. Daisy has brought him out of his shell, and he seems to—I don’t know—ground her.” They were opposites in every way, yet they fit together like puzzle pieces.

“As soon as it’s official, we should throw them an engagement party.”

“I’d love to throw a party.”

“Chance owns a restaurant nearby with a private party room which would be perfect for one.”

“I’ll call you as soon as anything’s announced, and we can plan.”

Daisy joined us a few minutes later, and it was clear how much she and Tory adored one another. It made me miss Addy and wish she was here. Although I’d seen her this weekend, it wouldn’t be the same when I couldn’t see her face every day.

After two rounds of drinks, I was intrigued by a handsome stranger who approached. He was dressed in an expensively tailored black suit and only had eyes for Tory. “Someone here for you, I assume?”

She turned her head and rose, greeting him with the type of kiss that made me wish I had a sexy man to go home to. His hand caressed her ass as if to tell anyone looking on she was taken.

Daisy fanned herself with a giggle, clearly used to their PDA.

Tory pulled back and, taking a hold of his hand, turned to face us. “I want you to meet Caleb’s sister, Brooke. Brooke, this is my fiancé, Chance Maxwell.”

I stood up and took his free hand. “Nice to meet you.”

Although there was a dangerous quality about him, he softened as he greeted me. “You as well. You’re the doctor?”

“I am. Yes.”

After nodding, he leaned down to give Daisy a hug. “If you ladies need anything, let me know.”
