She’ll be back tonight, though, and we’ll continue this fantasy.

Until then, I have to face the real world and go to the place that depresses me the most.

When I pull up at Dubois’ Developments, there’s a heaviness in my heart that expands the instant I walk into the building, and Cilla, Dad’s secretary, tells me my father wants to see me urgently.

That will mean the day is about to start fucked up.

I don’t want to think what it might end like.

I make my way to his office and knock on the door.

He calls out to come in, and when I do, I’m mildly surprised to see Honotoro Yamoto and his cousin Ranjutu Hitzugaiya sitting opposite my father, who has a bewildered expression on his face.

These men are two of Japan’s most influential billionaires. They do everything, and they also happen to be good friends of Donny. I’ve met them several times

I just don’t know what they’re doing here.

They both smile when they see me and push to their feet to greet me.

“Kon'nichiwa,” I say to them, saying hello in Japanese.

While Dad looks at us in amazement, we hold a whole conversation he can’t understand a word of.

I take a moment to acknowledge him.

“My God, thank God you’re here,” he says. I never thought I’d hear those words coming out of his mouth.

“What happened?”

“Donny sent them. He told them to stop by, and we’d sort them out with whatever they needed. It’s a contract for three million to build another branch of their company in Illinois. Three million, Henry.” He looks like he might pass out.

“That’s great.”

“I know, but I don’t know what the hell to say.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll take care of it.”

Ten minutes later, I have everything covered, and those contracts signed. They just wanted to meet with us to touch base and discuss when work could begin.

They were in town for business, and Donny told them it would be fine to swing by this morning because I’d be here. I’m fluent in five languages. Japanese being one of them.

I set everything up, much to my father’s astonishment. It made me wonder if he’d thought I was some incompetent idiot with his dick in his hands all these years.

The guys left happy, leaving my father a very rich man.

He looks at me as the door closes and stares.

I don’t know what he’s thinking, but I know facts. What just happened is that I just showed him how much I’ve changed and who I am.

“It’s all sorted,” I tell him, breaking the stare fest. “I told them we’d start next month, and they’ll make the payments to the company account, as opposed to me.”

“Thank you.”

“No worries. I guess I’ll see you later.”

“Wait. Where’d you learn to speak Japanese like that?”

I raise my shoulders. “At Giordanos, I dealt with all the international client accounts. Japan was the country I took care of the most.”
