“Not in the last ten minutes. So let’s hear it.”
Throwing my head back, I laugh my first genuine laugh today. “And funny as hell, too.” Moving my face so that my lips are inches away from his, I say, “I have that list memorized if you want me to start listing the reasons I adore you. But we are going to be here a while.”
He pretends to consider it. “In that case, let’s postpone it. I have a surprise for you today.”
“Oh, a surprise.” I bounce in the seat. “I can’t wait.”
He raises his clipboard, setting to work on the form. “Don’t bother trying to guess it. Unless you want to make some sort of sexual bet with me that I’ll win.”
Blushing furiously, I looked over my shoulder to ensure my parents didn’t hear him. But they are busy chatting about something else, not paying attention to us. “Hmmm… tempting.” I grin flirtatiously at him.
Max finishes completing his form while I sign mine. My parents head toward us, and Max turns to them with a smile. Handing them the clipboards with our completed forms, my parents head back into the administration office while Max holds me tight.
“Everything will work out, baby. You’ll see.”
I give him a grateful smile. In time, I know it will.
Two hours later, Max carries my overstuffed bags into the hotel. I follow behind, carrying a few things, sadness engulfing me. We stopped by the apartment I shared with Vanessa to pick up some of my things after we left campus. Vanessa wasn’t there and she still hasn’t responded to any of my texts.
I hurry in behind him, removing the clothing that still holds the stain of my abduction and near sexual assault. Since I’ve spent so much time naked with Max, it hasn’t bothered me.
Until today.
Once I’ve changed into a new pair of jeans, a long-sleeved t-shirt, and a sweater, I turn around to find Max’s eyes roving down my body. He releases a whistle, causing me to beam with happiness.
“You look stunning, beautiful.”
Moving into his arms, I give him a kiss. He squeezes my ass, making me laugh. His voice is deep, desire heavy in his eyes, as he says, “We better get outta here. Before I strip you naked again.”
Grinning, I say, “You can do that later. I’m anxious for my surprise.”
“Oh, you’re gonna love it.” He grabs my hand, pulling me toward the door. His excitement is palpable as he drags me along behind him, practically jogging through the hallway to the elevator.
We hurry to his vehicle and always the gentleman, Max helps me into the passenger seat before jogging to the driver’s side and hopping in. He quickly starts the ignition, then backs out of the space. He winks at me as he drives forward, navigating through traffic.
I can’t help the grin that has permanently settled on my lips as I watch him, happiness filling me. His good mood is contagious.
Sitting in the passenger seat, I hum along to the music, feeling more relaxed than I have in days. His hand is on my leg as he glances over at me, a pair of sunglasses on his face. He drives me out of town and along unfamiliar roads that are surrounded by woods. My gaze flits between the windows and his face, trying to figure out where he may be taking me.
An hour later, he pulls off the road. I’m thoroughly confused as I look around, seeing nothing except tall grass and thick, brightly colored foliage.
“Do you trust me?” He turns in his seat, facing me.
“With my life.” There’s no hesitation as I look at him, soaking in the broad smile on his face, his baby blues full of love and devotion for me.
Reaching into his pocket, he pulls out a necktie. “Can I blindfold you?”
“Is this some kinky sex thing? I’d totally be down for it, but why here, in the forest?”
Max laughs, shaking his head. “No kinky sex thing—yet.” His eyes burn with heat as he says that. “But we are getting close and I really want to enjoy your reaction when you see where I’m taking you.”
“Okay.”
He leans over, gently placing the tie over my eyes, tying it behind my head. When he’s finished, he hovers, and I inhale deeply, breathing him in. His fingers go to my chin, turning my head. His lips touch mine, featherlike, slowly deepening the kiss.
I melt into him, his mouth capturing my sigh of contentment.
He slowly pulls back. “I think we’ll use the necktie later.”
