“We are not married. We will never get married.”
Another infuriating smile.
Her phone buzzed, and she picked it up.
Amanda:How are you settling in?
Addy:Fine. Vic won’t leave.
Amanda:Yeah, that sounds about right.
Addy:What can I do to get rid of him?
Amanda:Why do you want to?
Addy:He dumped me and broke my heart.
Amanda:He was trying to protect you.
Addy:The concussion I have proves that he did a crappy job.
Amanda:Addison!
She knew what Amanda meant with that one word. He had broken her heart, and she knew why he did it. But at the moment, she wasn’t ready to forget and forgive. It was hard to do that with a man who said the things he did to her. The wound was too fresh.
Amanda:Please tell me you didn’t say that to him.
Addy:Of course not. I wanted to.
Amanda:But you know it’s not true.
Addy:What happened to my friend who wanted to cut off his appendages?
Amanda:She heard his voice crack when he called to say you were okay.
Addy pressed her lips together and fought the need to look over at the man in question.
Before she could call him more names, there was a knock at the door. Vic looked at Justin, who was closest to the door. With a nod, Justin rose from his chair. She couldn’t see who it was, but soon, Justin returned with some bags.
“What’s that?”
Vic took the bags from Justin that had an emblem of one of her favorite lingerie stores.
“I knew you would want a robe and something comfortable to wear.”
She rolled her eyes. “I’m not prancing around in lingerie.”
His mouth twitched. “I would never expect you to prance anywhere.”
His gaze sparkled, and there was no mistaking the warmth in his voice. Addy had to fight the way her body reacted. Even with a throbbing head, she wanted him. Her body yearned for him. Wanted him and knew that she had been ruined for all other men. And that irritated her.
“So, what did you get me?”
He pulled out a lovely kimono-style rob and a soft nightshirt that had flowers all over it. “I thought this would be more comfortable for you.”
“Thank you.”
“Wanna put them on?”
