With a testicle in my mouth, the doorbell shatters the moment and pulls us back into the real world. I stop, Alek stops. We freeze as if not moving an inch will make it go away.

“Oh shit! It’s Akoni!”
The bell sounds again.
“I have to let him in. This is the first time he’s been here in a long time!” I whisper. “I’m sorry.”

“Get dressed and come with me. If he knows someone’s here, it will scare him off. I don’t want to give him the opportunity to run.”
“Okay,” he says, rolling out of the bed and pushing down the erection.
“I’m coming, Akoni!” I yell.
We dress in a blur, Alek’s shorts and shirt, my pareo and a bathing suit top. Checking myself in the mirror, I wind my hair in a bun and stick in a chopstick to hold.
“Ready?”
“Wait!”
He comes around the bed, takes me in his arms, and kisses the top of my head.
“Thank you, sunshine.”
“I’ll finish the job later,” I whisper.
“There’s so much more I want to say.”
“Me too. You were wonderful.”
I kiss him before turning to go. And then one more.
“Coming!”
I head for the door, signaling for Alek to follow.
There Akoni stands looking through the transom with a big grin. That’s new. He sees I am not alone and his face shows the surprise.
“Hi!” I say, opening the door and taking him in an embrace. Behind me, the men lay eyes on each other. Alek chuckles.
“Alek?” Akoni says. “Is that you?”
“Hey, bro! Yeah, it’s me. Good to see you again!”
“Wow! I didn’t expect this!”
The two men come together in a hug and it doesn’t escape me they each hold on, happy to see an old friend.
