Nate smiles sheepishly. “I came too soon. I wanted to make you come again, but it just felt so good, I couldn’t help it.”

Raising my eyebrows, I’m surprised by his apology. “What do you mean? I got to come twice.”

Nate stands to dispose of the condom. He turns to me and shrugs. “Yeah, but I wanted to make it last longer. Make you come more than once when we fucked.”

“Oh,” I say, leaning up on my elbows. “Well, I wasn’t disappointed at all.”

Nate pulls his boxer briefs on, then leans over the bed and kisses my nose. “I’m glad to hear that. Neither was I.”

I’m flooded with joy. Absolute joy. Nate is not only a genuinely sweet guy but our chemistry is also off the charts, and apparently, we have great sex, too. That was the best experience of my life, and although I don’t have much to compare it to, I know it was something special.

After Nate and I get dressed, we decide to go out to eat. We walk to a brewery down the street with good reviews, although I’ve never eaten there before. It turns out to be great food, and Nate and I enjoy each other’s company.

As we walk back to his hotel hand in hand, Nate says he has something to tell me.

“I’m being sent back to San Diego on Wednesday.”

I stop dead in my tracks and turn to face him, dropping my hand from his. “What?” How could he not mention this until now?

Nate shoves his hands in his pockets and looks down. “I didn’t want to tell you because I don’t want to leave. I wanted to enjoy this evening with you, but it’s been gnawing at the back of my mind.”

My stomach drops, and I feel sick. And confused. Crossing my arms over my chest, I ask, “Why are they sending you to San Diego? What about Bremerton?”

Nate looks at me and shrugs. “That’s the Navy for you. They can send me wherever they want, and they want me back down south.”

This is so unfair. I finally meet a guy I like and want to date, we have a great connection and enjoy our time together, and now he has to leave the state?

“I’m sorry,” he says, reaching out and gently holding my shoulders. I look at him, trying not to get emotional about this. “I want to spend as much time with you as I can before I leave on Wednesday.”

I scoff. “You mean tonight and tomorrow? What time are you leaving on Wednesday?”

“In the morning,” he says, remorse written all over his face. “I know this is shitty, and we don’t have much time together, but I want to make the best of it.”

Looking into Nate’s eyes, I can see his sincerity. Obviously, being in the Navy means being shipped wherever they want you. This isn’t his fault. And I should know better. I knew he was only in Port Townsend temporarily.

Not knowing what else to say, I do the only thing I want to do and kiss him. I wrap my hands around his arms, pull him closer, and pour all the emotions I’m feeling into this kiss. “Take me back to your room,” I quickly pull my lips away to say. “Now.”

Nate doesn’t stop kissing me, though. Our kiss goes on and on, and my feelings are getting stronger and more heated for him. His touch, his kiss, he turns me on like no one else ever has. If we don’t go back to his hotel soon, I may start ripping his clothes off right here on the sidewalk.

“Please,” I plead. Nate finally pulls away, takes my hand, and walks at full speed back to The Pioneer.
