He takes a step, forcing me to step backward until my back hits the house. His body presses against mine, and my core pulses with anticipation of where this is going. I wouldn’t be opposed to taking this upstairs. It dawns on me that this mirrors the scene I read in his book earlier. Mick had Selena pressed against the wall, just as Stone has me right now.

Suddenly, Stone pulls back, rests his forehead against mine, and drops his hands to my shoulders. “I want you, Olivia.”

I close my eyes, trying to control my emotions and not seem too eager. “I want you, too.”

And then the back door opens, startling both of us. Stone steps away from me and runs a hand through his hair.

“Oh––” Lorelei’s hand flies to her chest, obviously surprised to find us here. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know you were back here.”

“It’s okay,” I quickly reply. “Stone and I just returned from a walk on the beach.”

Lorelei cocks an eyebrow. “Oh, that’s nice.” She walks across the deck to the picnic table, where she picks up something. She turns and holds up her reading glasses. “I was looking for these,” she explains as she walks back toward the door. “Don’t mind me,” she says before going back in the house and closing the door behind her.

Stone and I look at one another, then burst out laughing.

“I’m sorry,” I say, feeling the need to apologize for my aunt interrupting us.

“No, it’s fine,” Stone says. “I guess there’s not a lot of privacy at a

B&B.”

“Not exactly,” I reply with a chuckle.

Stone steps toward me and touches my arm. “Will you go out with me tomorrow night? I have an extra ticket to this VIP dinner thing, and I’d like to spend more time with you.”

My mouth drops open. I’m stunned. He wants to take me out? “Is this like a date?”

He nods. “Yeah. Is that okay?”

My mouth lifts in a smile. “I’d like that.”

Stone brushes a strand of hair out of my face. “I’m looking forward to it.” He leans down and brushes his lips against mine. “Good night.”

He kisses me, all too briefly, then turns to head inside. I’m frozen in place, processing everything that’s happened within the past few minutes.

Before Stone goes inside, he turns back toward me. “Are you coming in?”

“Uh, yeah,” I reply, bending over to pick up my book.

I follow him inside, but we say good night again and go our separate ways. I can’t wait for tomorrow night. Hopefully, we’ll pick up where we left off tonight. I’m now craving Stone Ryder.

After another long day of signing books, I’m ready to have fun and spend more time with Olivia. Even if it’s going to be at a dinner with more book fans. What I’m looking forward to is what can happen after the dinner.

When Lorelei interrupted us last night, I was disappointed, of course. I was hoping to take Olivia upstairs with me. My feelings have grown for her, and I want her––bad. Lorelei walking out on us reminded me that we weren’t alone, though. Taking her upstairs after that didn’t seem like the respectful thing to do. However, I have a plan for tonight. Oliviawillcome back to my room with me.

Since I have an hour before the dinner starts, I drive back to the B&B to change my clothes and pick Olivia up. The dinner is a semi-formal event, and I can’t wait to see Olivia dressed up. I’ve been thinking about how beautiful she is all day, imagining how breathtaking she’ll look tonight.

When I arrive at the house, I see Lorelei working in the flower bed in the front yard. She waves as I pull up, and I wave in return. Once I get out of my car, she calls my name. I look in her direction, and she’s walking toward me.

“Hi, Lorelei,” I greet her as she approaches. She’s wearing another caftan dress––this time in shades of green––and she has gardening gloves on.

“Hi, Stone. I just wanted to apologize for last night.”

What?

I’m taken aback. Why would she feel the need to apologize?
