“That’s good to know. I’ll keep you posted if Stone is going to come with me.” I hope he will. Taking a trip anywhere with Stone sounds fun, but Vegas would be an absolute blast!

We talk a little while longer before ending our call. It’s a good feeling to have the support of all my friends now, including Carson. I can’t wait to tell Stone the news––Taylor admitted he never cheated on her, Carson and Chelsea apologized, and all of my friends support our relationship. Today is a good day!

Stone

What a weekend. Another successful book signing, but I’m exhausted. I just want to get home, but this airport security line is moving at the speed of molasses.

Actually, what I’d like to do is get home to Olivia, but I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to drive to Seaside. It’ll be late by the time I land in Seattle tonight thanks to the layover I have in Chicago. Otherwise, I would make the trek to the coast as soon as I leave SeaTac Airport.

Although Diane flew to New York with me, she’s not flying home today. She has family in Jersey, so she’s extending her trip to spend time with them. Therefore, I’m flying alone today, which, frankly, is kind of nice. Diane is easy to travel with, but once in a while, it’s nice to be by myself.

When I finally make it through security, I find my way to my gate. I still have a half hour before boarding starts, so I’m good on time. However, as soon as I find the gate, I don’t like what I see.

Delayed.

Shit! It doesn’t say how long the delay is, so I walk up to the counter to ask the woman working if she knows.

“How can I help you?” she asks with a smile.

“Can you tell me how long the delay is for flight 4296?”

Her smile turns down. “Unfortunately, we’re not exactly sure. There’s an electrical problem with the plane that they’re currently fixing, but they haven’t given us a new departure time yet.”

My heart sinks. “Okay, thanks,” I say before turning and walking away.

Great. If they can’t estimate a new departure time, they must anticipate it taking a long time. I only have a two-hour delay in Chicago, and if I miss that flight to Seattle, I’ll have even more problems. What can I do?

I decide to take a walk instead of sitting around and waiting. I won’t go far, but I have too much nervous energy to sit still right now. Maybe I’ll find a Starbucks and get a drink. Caffeine might help me wake up more.

I don’t walk far when I notice a flight leaving a couple of gates away is flying to Portland. I stop in my tracks and double check that it’s Portland, Oregon, and it is. It’s leaving in less than an hour, and it’s a direct flight.

Could I switch flights? It’s the same airline…

Should I ask the guy who’s working at the counter? Flying to Portland would mean I’d be closer to Seaside. Sure, I’d have to rent a car to drive there, but I’d be with Olivia tonight. Not only that, if my flight is delayed for too long, my day of traveling to Seattle could turn into a nightmare. I may not even get home tonight!

Without another thought, I approach the counter and ask.

“Are there any seats available for this flight to Portland?”

“Let me check,” the man behind the counter replies before typing on his keyboard. It only takes a couple of seconds before he looks back at me with a smile. “It looks like we do! Did you want to switch flights?”

I breathe a sigh of relief. “Yes,” I say before explaining my situation to him. Luckily, it’s just a small fee for me to change flights, which I gladly pay. Knowing I won’t be stuck here in New York, or in Chicago later, andthat I can see Olivia tonight brightens my day!

As soon as I’m all checked in for the flight, I call Olivia to tell her the good news.

“Are you serious? You’ll be here tonight?” she asks, excitement in her voice.

“Yep! I’ll rent a car at PDX and drive straight to Seaside. I should be there by nine or nine thirty. Is that okay?”

“Of course,” she replies. “I’m happy you’ll be here a day early. I can’t wait to see you!”

“Me, too, baby,” I say. “I’ve missed you so much.”

“I’ve missed you, too.” It feels good to hear her say that.

I was a little nervous about Olivia’s true feelings for me. After I said I love her, and she wasn’t quite sure about saying it back, I wondered if I was moving too fast for her. Then, when shedidtell me she loves me, I hoped she wasn’t saying it just because she felt like she had to. Of course, I didn’t want to think that way, and based on the way Olivia acts around me, as well as the way she communicates with me via text and phone calls, I can tell her feelings are genuine. However, hearing how excited she is to have me arrive at her house tonight rather than tomorrow validates her feelings for me.

Olivia and I are in love, and it’s the best feeling in the world.
