I’m an ass.

“I had no ideayouwere the new guest arriving today. My aunt failed to mention that bit of information.”

I chuckle. So, her aunt works here, too? Interesting. I wonder how many family members run this place.

“So, what brings you to Seaside?” she asks.

“I’m in town for the Seaside Festival’s book signing,” I explain. “It starts tomorrow and goes through the weekend.”

“That’s so cool. I’m surprised the Seaside Festival was able to book a famous author like you.”

I laugh a little. “Yeah, well, I wouldn’t consider myself famous. They invite local authors, and I’m not too far away in Tacoma, so I made the cut.”

Her hazel eyes light up. “You’re from Tacoma?” She flips her blond hair back and stands a little straighter.

“Sure am. I’ve lived there my whole life.”

“No way! I grew up in Tacoma, too,” she says, taking me by surprise.

I lean against the counter, shocked that we grew up in the same place. I want to get to know this girl better. “Is that right? Where did you live?”

“I was in the Fircrest area. How about you?”

The ghetto. But I refrain from saying that.

“I grew up in the south end, close to Parkland. Now, though, I’m near Point Defiance.”

Her eyes widen, as if she didn’t expect me to say that. I wonder if she’s more surprised about what part of town I grew up in, or where I live now. They’re polar opposites.

“Wow, that’s awesome,” she says.

For a moment, we hold eye contact, not saying a word. I realize I don’t even know her name. She doesn’t have a name tag on, and she hasn’t introduced herself.

She looks down, then pulls a piece of paper out and places it on the counter. “I just need you to sign here,” she says, getting back to business. I quickly look over the paperwork, then sign my name. She goes on to explain everything I need to know about the B&B. I try to listen to everything she says, but my mind keeps wandering. I wonder if she sleeps here. Maybe we’ll bump into each other in the middle of the night… her in a short nighty with her breasts popping out… my hand would accidentally brush against her, and––

Fuck! What am I thinking?

I snap out of it and focus on what she’s telling me.

“...and you’ll be staying in the Celestial Room. All of our rooms are themed here,” she says.

“Wait, the room I’m staying in is called the Celestial Room?” I ask. Go figure. I grew up in a home decorated with celestial things, thanks to my New Age, hippy mom. When she was alive, she was all about horoscopes and astrology.

Nodding, she replies, “Yes. All of our rooms have different themes. You’ll be in the

Celestial Room on the second floor.”

I smile. Mom’s probably looking down from heaven, laughing at me. She knew how much I didn’t appreciate the celestial look. However, now that she’s gone, I consider it a sweet reminder of her. “That’s really cool. I can’t wait to see it.”

“Would you like me to show you to your room?” she asks.

“That’d be great,” I reply. How can I turn down the opportunity to spend more time with her? I still don’t know her name.

“Follow me,” she says, walking toward the stairs. I grab my luggage and follow behind her.

As we head up the stairs, I can’t help but notice her tight little ass swaying right in front of me. I know it’s ridiculous to think anything will happen between us; it’s still nice to imagine. It’s been a long time since I’ve been with a woman. My last girlfriend and I broke up almost a year ago, and I’ve been too busy to date, or even casually hook up with anyone. Since I’ve hit the Wall Street Journal Best-Seller list, my life has turned upside down. In fact, it’s part of the reason my girlfriend left me. Dating has been the last thing on my mind. But this girl has awakened something inside me.

I need to play it cool, though. I definitely don’t want to come across as a creep. The last thing I need is to tarnish my reputation and ruin my career.
