Zander reached out and pulled her face close to his, “When I saw that bear, I thought I was dead. I thought there was no way I’d get to see your beautiful face ever again and all I could think was that I never had a chance to tell you that I love you. I love you, Maya. I’ve loved you from the moment you told me to run like hell in the other direction. You knew I was meant to be yours and you still tried to send me away because you thought it was what I wanted. I started falling for you then and the more we’ve gotten to know one another, the more I’ve grown to love you for the strong, independent, opinionated woman that you are.”

“You love me?” Maya blinked, tears on her dark lashes.

“Of course I do. You’re incredible.”

She shook her head, “Not right now. Right now I’m a mess.”

“Well so am I, but that’s why we’re perfect for each other. Fate made you for me and me for you. You can’t argue with fate, Maya.”

“I did though. I fought her but in the end, she won.”

“No.” Zander shook his head, “We won. You and me, because we got each other.”

Maya leaned in and kissed him then and he smiled against her lips. He kissed her back softly, gently and when she would have deepened the kiss he pulled back. She tried to follow his mouth to keep kissing but he shook his head.

“As much as I always want you, as much as I want you to finally seal the bond and give me my wolf so we can truly be bonded forever… its not happening right now.” He pushed her hair back softly, “You need to rest first. You’re going to need your energy for when you turn me. Sleep with me first, and then, once we’re both rested and healed, you can mark me so the world knows I’m yours forever.”

He was pleasantly surprised when Maya gave in and nodded. She gave him one last soft kiss and then curled back against his side. He figured it was further proof of just how exhausted she was and he pulled her close. He dragged the blankets up and covered them, snuggling down next to her. He closed his eyes, certain that after almost two days of being unconscious that there was no way he’d be able to sleep again so soon. But with Maya in his arms, tucked at his side and protectively wrapped around him, he felt safe and warm and home, and he slid into sleep easily and with a smile on his face as he dreamed of what would come next for them.

Chapter Twenty

When Maya woke up, it was dark outside again except for the glow of the big moon in the sky. Her wolf stretched inside of her, reminding her that it was almost her time to be in control. Tomorrow night the moon would be full and there would be no more putting off her wolf or the inevitable. Tomorrow Zander would be hers forever.

She snuggled in closer to his side, closing her eyes again, thinking she should get some more sleep, but a big hand on her hip squeezed her closer. She shifted in his grasp, causing her hips to rock against his leg where she’d straddled his thigh in her sleep. He hummed and she smiled against his chest, knowing that sleep was no longer on the agenda.

“How are you feeling, sweetheart?” Zander’s voice was husky from sleep and desire.

“Better.” She pressed a kiss to his chest, “You?”

“Much better.” He slid his hand on her hip to her ass and cupped the round flesh, “I think I’m up for letting you have your wicked way with me now.”

“Oh, you think so?” She raked her teeth over his chest teasingly.

“I think so but you can test it for yourself.” He used his free hand to lace their fingers together and slid it down, past where it had been resting on his stomach, until she could feel the thick, hard length of him pressing up. He hissed a breath when she wrapped her fingers around him, “Fuck.”

“Does that hurt?” She smiled, rising up on her elbow to look at him. “Maybe we should hold off…”

He growled and she squealed as he shifted suddenly. He caught her off guard and managed to roll them. She ended up on her back and he hovered over her, holding his weight off her and smiling down at her.

“No more teasing, sweetheart. I want you now.”

“You should be resting.” She pushed at his chest, rolling them again until he was the one flat on his back on the bed and she straddled his waist. “Lay right there.”

“Maya…” his voice was a warning in the dark and she smiled as the heat of wanting him snaked through her and pooled low in her belly.

“I didn’t say no.” she whispered, leaning down over him to whisper in his ear, “I just said to stay right there.”

She nibbled on his earlobe and he groaned. She trailed kisses down his stubble covered jaw until she found his mouth again. He immediately rose up to meet her, tangling his hands in her hair and delving his tongue between her lips. She hummed and sucked on him as she rolled her hips, grinding herself against the erection beneath her. But when he started to reach between them she broke the kiss and pushed him back down on the bed.

“I said, stay.”

Zander chuckled, “Don’t make dog jokes right now.”

She giggled, “I wasn’t. You just have a one-track mind.”

“Two tracks really. I want two things. You, on my cock, riding me and your fangs piercing my skin, sealing the bond between us, and giving me my wolf so I can spend eternity loving you.”

Maya smiled down at him, “Maybe that can be arranged.”
