I sink against Teddy’s chest, soaking in his support as we sway under the twinkling lights strung across the ceiling of the hotel ballroom.

“I was writing in the car,” I tell him.

“I know,” Teddy replies. “I was trying to read what you were writing and also look at the road.”

I laugh and tilt my head back so I can see his face. “It’s about you,” I admit.

“Really?” He looks surprised. And pleased.

“Yeah. I want our song to have a different ending too. One of them, at least. I’ll still sing ‘Heartbreak for Two.’”

“Can I hear it?”

Softly, I sing the first two lines. “I thought you were heartbreak. You make me the happiest.”

Teddy’s arms tighten around me.

“I think I’m going to call it ‘Happy Endings Happen.’”

That’s what it feels like I’m living right now.

A happy ending.
