Go-karts? Wow, the school went up big for this.

I shake my head. Mackie, Miles, and Sarah are already trotting in that direction.

Aaron leans in and squeezes my hand. “Coming, Beautiful?”

Words. Make them.

“Yeah, in a minute. I need to grab some water. This is crazy sweet.”

He nods, then leans in and sweetly kisses my cheek. But he holds it for a second longer than normal. Barely any time at all, but enough for it to feel less friendly and more likesomething.

My eyes go a little wide at the sensation. But I start to melt entirely when he leans in and whispers, “Don’t take too long.”

Then he gives me a sexy wink, slaps Joel—who is standing next to me—on the shoulder, and runs off to where Miles, Mackie, and Sarah are waiting.

My hand comes up to my cheek where his lips just were.

My heart is pounding.

Joel steps in front of me, eyes wide. “Okay, not to be indelicate, but what the fuck was that?”

I blink a couple of times.

“He kissed me,” I whisper, still in disbelief about whatever is happening.

“On the cheek, I was standing right here,” Joel says.

I snap out of my Aaron-induced daze and look at Joel, quickly shaking my head.

“No. On the hood of his truck. He kissed me. Like, really kissed me.With his tongue.”

Joel’s eyes go wider. “What?”

I shake my head a little. “I know.”

He puts his hands on my arms and gives me a little shake.

“He kissed you with his tongue?”

“Uh huh. And it was…” I shake Joel’s hand off my arm and let my hand come to rest on my heart.

“So, what does this mean?”

“I don’t know!” I snap.

You have a crush on him. Might be falling in love with him. Definitely want him. Really want to kiss him. A whole lot.

Joel gives me that smirk. That knowing smirk that makes me want to slap him.

“You love him.”

“What—no—I—”

I was supposed to be opening my heart to the idea of us. Testing the waters. Not falling head over heels in love with him. He’s my best friend. My person. One of the most important people in my life. He’s my everything.

My everything? Oh shit.

I think Joel might be right.
