“Well done,” I say, giving him a high five.
“It was fucking cold,” he says as we all laugh.
Once Miles is dressed again, the game continues.
“A, you’re up. Truth or dare?”
With Aaron, it could go either way, he never seems to care which he chooses.
“Eh, truth.”
Miles thinks for a second, then he looks between Aaron and me and grins.
“You and Rae always make those wishes. Tell us one that’s come true.”
I raise my eyebrows. I’m definitely curious. Our rule is we can only tell our wishes if they come true, but we’ve never gone back and followed up on them.
He inhales sharply and runs a hand through his hair.
“Most of mine have been more long-term, but one did come true.” He pauses, downing some of his beer. “Shit, you guys are gonna pick on me, but here goes. The night before Sarah’s thirteenth birthday was a clear night and Rae and I made wishes. Maybe it was all the talk of theLove Shackor mybeautifulbest friend squeezing my hand, but I wished that I’d get to kiss Rae at the party. And we did.”
My eyes go a little bit wide. “First kiss,” I whisper.
“First kiss,” he says back, drinking more of his beer.
Miles rolls his eyes. “Should’ve been fucking expecting that.”
I can’t stop staring at Aaron. He runs his hand through his golden-blond hair, causing his bicep to flex under his gray tee. His bronze eyes drift down as his cheeks tint slightly pink. The tiniest flutter in my stomach catches me off guard. He looks so freaking cute right now. And maybe a little sexy too.
“That’s sweet, A,” Mackie says, looking from me to him.
He lifts his gaze again, and his eyes catch mine as I say, “Aww, Ace…” My bottom lip pops out.
He groans a little and looks at me, then points at my lip. “Put that away.” His eyes dance as he smiles at me.
I shoot him a wink, and he gives me one back before turning his attention to Sarah.
“Sarbear, what’ll it be?”
“Dare,” she says. Because Sarah doesn’t do truth in a group setting. Usually, it’s only with me. Maybe Mackie or Joel.
Aaron grins an evil grin.
“Fine then. I dare you to kiss Joel.” He crosses his arms over his chest, looking pleased with himself.
Anoohcomes from around the table as we watch Sarah. She huffs a little bit. Joel looks uncomfortable. Obviously, Sarah is with Trevor, and Joel is not the type to ever undermine a friend’s relationship. But there’s more to it than that. She and Joel have always hadsomethingbetween them. It’s not always obvious, but I see it occasionally. And I think Trevor has too. Don’t get me wrong, Sarah is stupidly in love with Trevor, and she works hard to have a good relationship with him. I don’t think she has feelings for Joel, but they have chemistry. And they have a bond. And while Trevor is respectful of their friendship, I know their closeness bothers him sometimes. Sarah might be flirty, and she might not want to back down from a dare, but she also wouldn’t want to sabotage her relationship with Trev. She and Joel exchange what seems to be some sort of conversation with their eyes.
“That’s not fair. That’s asking me to cheat on my boyfriend,” Sarah says, crossing her arms over her chest.
Aaron shakes his head and smiles. “Nah. You’re giving a friend a peck. It wouldn’t mean anything, right?”
Sarah glares at him.
“Look, all I’m saying is, if it’s nothing, it shouldn’t matter. Text Trev. See what he says. If he doesn’t want you to, then you’re exempt or I’ll think of something else. But if you’re sure there’s nothing between you, then it shouldn’t matter. But if you aren’t sure… then I guess I get that. There’s nothing like a kiss to show you thetruth.” Aaron’s eyes drift to me as he says that last part and my heart beats faster. Because what the hell does that mean? Is he saying there’s something between us? Or there isn’t? It can’t be the second one. I felt the sparks, the tingly feeling that shot through my whole body. I know he did, too. But if he’s saying thereissomething between us, does that mean—
“Fine.” Sarah grabs her phone and quickly sends a text.
As we’re waiting to see what the answer will be, my phone vibrates.
