I let Davey meet my parents last night so he could pick me up today without any weirdness, even though he was great with them—not that my parents are the worst ones to meet.

For our date, I decided to wear a deep purple lacy T-shirt dress that hugs my body and falls just below my mid-thigh with some simple black booties.

When Davey knocks on the front door, I let Sarah answer so she can give him herdon’t hurt my sistertalk. Then she calls for me.

Davey is wearing a dark blue button down with dark tan slacks and some lace-up brown boots. He looks delicious. And sexy. Especially with that charming-but-troublesome smile on his face.

That is, until he sees me, and his mouth drops a little.

“Wow,” he says, his hands coming up to my arms as he looks me up and down over and over again. “You look gorgeous.” Then he leans in and whispers, “And sexy as hell.”

My stomach twists with excitement. I’ve never been so excited for a date before. I’ve always loved romance, and this is the first time it feels like a guy has tried to go all out for me.

He hands me a small bouquet, which Sarah quickly takes from me. Then she smacks me on the ass and tells us to get out of here, which we do.

Once in the car, our mouths immediately find their way together. And then so do our tongues. We spend ten minutes parked in front of the house, making out, before he stops us and says, “If we don’t go now, we’re gonna miss our date.”

“Then we should probably go. I guess I could kiss you more later,” I say.

He entwines our fingers, then pulls my hand up to kiss it before finally pulling onto the road.

Our date begins in a cozy booth at a fancy sushi restaurant.

After we order more food than we could possibly eat and they deliver our appetizers, he leans toward me and puts his hand on my thigh.

My gaze immediately drops to his hand. He looks at me, uncertain. “This okay?”

I nod and scooch closer, relaxing into the warmth of his touch.

“Rae, I’ve had so much fun with you these last few days. I admit, I’ve sometimes skipped the dating part of a relationship because I was focused on the physical part of it. I’m telling you that because I wanna be honest with you. I really like you, and I want to enjoy every second with you. So, I have two questions for you.”

I run my hand up through his hair and smile at him as anticipation whirls. I can’t believe a week ago I’d barely spoken to him.

“First, will you be my girlfriend?”

I beam at him, then pull his lips to mine and give him a steamy kiss. I’ve had a great time with him, and I want to keep doing that.

“Yes.”

“Yeah?”

“Definitely. As long as you always respect me and don’t try to rush with me.”

He shakes his head. “I don’t want that. I feel… different with you. I feel more emotion. I love being with you.”

“Good. And the second question?”

“Will you be my date for homecoming?”

I wrap my arms around his neck and kiss him. Then I pull back slightly and whisper, “Hell yes. I’m not gonna let myboyfriendtake someone else to homecoming.”

He smiles brightly, an earnest look in his eyes that melts my heart. “I love how it sounds when you say that. And I love you being mygirlfriend,” he says, leaning in to kiss me right as I hear…

“Rae?”

I immediately wince. I close my eyes and take a breath, then I turn to face Aaron, who just heard Davey call me his girlfriend and saw us almost start sucking each other’s faces off.

“Hey, Cooper,” Davey says.
