AFTER SOME FLUFFY scrambled eggs, brioche, and coffee, I collapsed on the bed, giddy from the combination of good food and fatigue. Roy slept next to me, his arms protectively wrapped around my body. Pierre said something about going out to celebrate with his mates, but I was too tired to leave the bed. Sunlight poured into the room when I woke up. The clock on the dresser read four o’clock in the afternoon. I stretched, my body sore.
Roy kissed my neck, right under my ear. “Good morning.”
“I think it’s afternoon.” I snuggled closer to him, aware that only the shirt I was using as a nightgown and nothing else separated our bodies, since he was sleeping in the buff.
“Who cares?” He kissed me again, his hand slipping under the hem of my shirt. A moan was my reply. “I’ve been waiting for you to wake up for a while.”
“Why?”
“Because I want you conscious and willing when I take you and kiss every inch of you.”
My beast stirred, causing a flutter in my chest. Roy’s beast rose as well. His presence reverberated inside me, louder than ever now that he could turn into a duce. The tip of his tongue caressed the seam of my lips, prying them open.
“No more secrets,” I whispered among kisses.
“No more secrets.” He brushed a lock of hair from my face and kissed the tip of my nose while his hand caressed my inner thigh.
“Is there anything else I need to know about you?” I asked.
A delicious shiver tiptoed along my body when he cupped my breast, fondling it gently. “Actually, now that you ask, yes, there are a few things you need to know.”
“Tell me.”
“I’m grumpy in the morning.”
“You’re always grumpy.”
He cocked a brow, the rough pad of his thumb brushing my nipple. “I don’t like being interrupted when I talk.”
A smile tugged at my lips as I nodded. “Please continue. This is utterly fascinating.” I yelped when he pinched my nipple hard in retribution.
“As you know, I’m jealous, possessive, guarded, and slow to forgive. I don’t like liars. And I don’t trust anyone. After an argument, I might be sulky for days, and when things don’t go like I want, anger gets the better of me.”
“Fantastic. You sound like a keeper. It’ll be a lovely ride.” I wrapped my arms around his neck.
“Ride? Funny you should mention that.” He shifted, so that I was underneath him, and left a trail of kisses along my jaw and neck.
Lust was so thick in the air between us, it was a wonder the bed sheets didn’t catch fire. His stubble grazed my skin with a delicious friction as he kissed my neck and that sensitive spot below my ear. Pleasure overtook me, and my back arched on its own. With deft fingers, he unbuttoned my shirt and pulled the lapels aside, nipping every inch of my skin bared to him. The tips of his hair tickled me as he bent his head.
When his mouth closed around my nipple, pulling it, I let out a cry. He lavished my breast with attention while his hand slid between my legs, finding my wet core. His mouth on my nipple was a torture of teeth and lips. He was gentle one moment, stroking my nipple with his tongue, and merciless the next, biting it and scratching the tips of his fangs on the sensitive flesh. Soon I was writhing and squirming underneath him, tugging at his hair.

All I can.” He caressed my face with reverence. “Your happiness will be my priority. So don’t take this moment lightly. It’s as good as a vow. I’m strictly monogamous, and I expect the same from you. If all this scares you, then I’ll stop right now. If you aren’t sure, if you have any doubts and want some time to think, I’ll wait for you. All the time you want. But please, don’t make this decision carelessly, or we’ll both end up hurt.”
Oh Lord. A lump grew in my throat as an avalanche of emotions overwhelmed me. He was worried I might break his heart. I cupped his cheeks, taking a deep breath, so that I wouldn’t sob incoherent words. “I’m more than ready. There’s nothing more I want than to be with you, at your side, in your bed. To be next to you when darkness threatens to swallow us. To give you everything I have. To take everything of you.” I spread my legs wider and rocked my hips, meeting his twitching shaft. “Take me, Roy. I need you inside me.”
