He shook his head. “I can’t do that. I need you here.”

“Why?”

“Because Roy will come for you.”

I laughed. It didn’t sound like the laugh of a sane person. “Nowyou’rejumping to conclusions. He won’t risk his life for me.”

“Gentlemen like Roy are so damn predictable. They will always do the decent thing, even if their life will be at risk. He will come. Especially for you.” He narrowed his gaze on me, giving me that unnerving feeling that he knew more about me than I’d shown him.

Yes, Roy would come for me. “And after he’s here?”

“The choice is his. He’ll have to join us—or die.”

I thumped a fist on the armrest. “That’s not a choice. That’s blackmail. How’s that different from what Raven Park did to you?”

He cradled his chin, mulling this over. “I guess it isn’t.” He rose from the armchair, the black uniform stretching over his lean body. “I’ll have someone bring you some clothes, so you can have breakfast downstairs, and then I’ll show you around.”

I’d rather have my teeth pulled. “Are you helping the Nazis create their own beasts?” I almost yelled, the roar of my beast echoing in my voice.

He paused at the door, a hand on the knob. “What do you think, Kristin?”
