are still good things worth finding.”

“I don’t believe in happily ever after,” Giana warned. “In

case that’s not obvious.”

“Neither do I, because that’s nonsense. Unless you work for

it and keep believing the good things are coming, because

maybe that can be true. But it doesn’t just happen.”

Didn’t it, though? Coralyn had walked into her office and

ever since then, life had been anything but happy, and

everything had changed. It was painful, maybe one of the most

painful things that Giana had to do since Heather died, but she

was here, feeling things she thought were long dead, wanting

things she didn’t know she could still want. For once, looking

forward instead of looking over her shoulder to the past. Even

if she didn’t believe in fate, standing here right now was still

right and beautiful and an awakening when she’d needed to be

shaken back to life.

“Good things are coming,” she echoed, wanting desperately

to believe it.

Coralyn nodded. “For us.” She clasped Giana’s hands in

hers. “I believe that. Do you?”

In the past, she would have said yes and not meant it. She

would have said no and broken someone else’s heart just to

keep hers safe. She wasn’t in the past anymore. “I think I’d

like to. I also think that nothing has felt right in my life

without you. You crashed into it and you made everything

unrecognizable. If I hadn’t come here, I know it would just be

me responsible for destroying everything. I’m not going there

again. This time, I’m doing it the hard way and doing all the

feelings stuff. I’m going to choose that, even if I’m entirely

inexperienced and a lot of stuff is going to come out so wrong.
