four years that she’d never even considered what it would be

like to find someone. To be a family with someone else. An

outside force, two people crashing into each other and

belonging to each other. That had been the last thing on her

mind.

And here she was, feeling it for the woman who she had

vowed to loathe. The woman she’d cursed. Her wife by law.

“Fuck,” she groaned against Giana’s neck. She’d been there

the whole time. Waiting. She hadn’t kissed her at the end. Had

she watched? The thought should have disturbed or frightened

or embarrassed Coralyn, but it didn’t. It made her throb around

Giana’s fingers, which were still inside her. “Giana, I…”

She pulled out gently. She put her hands on Coralyn’s

shoulders after, pressing her against the wall to steady her. She

waited for Coralyn to finish that sentence.

She needed to. So very badly. All it would take was a few

sentences strung together. I came to your office. I lied to you. I

stole your necklace. We don’t actually know each other, even

though now it feels like we do. I’m a bad person. I wanted to

hurt you. Now I don’t know what I want. I’m sorry. I’m so

sorry.

“I need to get back to the hospital.”

Giana was quick to mask any emotion from her face. It was

something she did, something she was good at. Did she know

that, or was it just habit? She reached down and smoothed her

fingers over Coralyn’s aching softness. So very gently. Yet

possessive. One little touch made Coralyn feel owned in a way

she had no idea was possible. She wanted more.

“Can I come with you and wait for you there? I don’t want

you to be alone. You shouldn’t be alone.”
