face. “With piercings and tattoos and stuff.”

“Yes. Well, no. I mean, my parents can be rude and

judgemental and oblivious half the time, but they wouldn’t

think you’re a bad person because of that.”

“Yes, they would. I looked them up, remember? They seem

like the type who would hate anyone who doesn’t rock a pants

suit.”

Emily had to bite the inside of her cheek to keep from

bursting into giggles. It would be an awkward response. She

hated her mom’s pants suits. Hated her entire wardrobe. It was

so bland and uninspired.

“Yeah,” she whispered, still choking back laughter.

“Anyway, it wouldn’t be that. It would be more the fact that I

went and got married and they’d know exactly why I did it. To

cause a scene. Because that’s exactly what they don’t want.

My dad doesn’t want it because it would mess with his career

and my mom wouldn’t want it because…I don’t know.

Because it’s not in line with how she thinks my life should go,

I guess.”

“It would also take attention away from her show.”

Emily wasn’t able to hold in the laughter that time. She

giggled softly, but at least hoped she looked decently sorry

after. “I shouldn’t laugh at that. She’s not really like that. You

were right. I was being too hard on them. I don’t want to hurt

them with this. I just want them to listen. They’ll never hear

me out unless I do something drastic.”
