“Ummm…” Emily was so fried from the whole day—

getting married that morning seemed like it had happened

weeks ago—that she couldn’t even think of what Dani had

said.

Wait, was this really still their wedding day? Were they

actually going grocery shopping on their wedding night?

What else would we be doing?

Emily’s brain shot that back at her in very dry tones. Not

only was their marriage fake, Dani wasn’t—well, Emily

assumed she wasn’t a lesbian. She’d needed a willing

participant in the marriage. She hadn’t asked if Dani was

straight or gay because it hadn’t mattered.

Because it didn’t.

Even if Emily had gotten extremely lucky and coincidence

or fate or whatever had guided her in the right direction, the

marriage didn’t mean anything.

It didn’t stop Emily from watching how Dani’s hips swayed

gently when she walked. It didn’t stop her from noticing how

gorgeous and tight Dani’s jeans made her butt look. How tall

and beautifully built she was. It didn’t stop Emily from

inhaling every note of that vanilla scent that trailed in Dani’s

wake, somehow cutting through all the other competing

aromas around them. It didn’t stop Emily from admiring how

tough Dani was, how efficient, how in command of every

aspect of her life she seemed to be. She was so impressive.

Even if Dani wasn’t her wife and Emily hadn’t been a

lesbian, she knew she’d still have a girl crush.

She remembered how she’d thought Dani wasn’t

traditionally beautiful. She wasn’t. She was far, far more
