a wave of tears that threatened to spill over. She was happy.

She was learning what that meant. She slid her palm into

Cassia’s and tugged her close again, wrapping her arms around

her waist. It was too early for the day to be warm yet, but the

heat of their bodies melded together. It was too early to know

what would happen when the regular work time rolled around,

but whatever happened, Adalynn knew they’d be there to

support each other. Even if they just took small steps and got

to fully know each other as they entered into a real

relationship, that was everything.

“So, goats?” Adalynn said jokingly as she leaned in to kiss

Cassia again. “Where does one even get goats?”

“I don’t know,” Cassia responded on a giggle. “But I’m sure

we can find out.”

Who knew goats could be so much work?

Cassia grunted as she hefted out yet another bale of straw

from the back of their new pickup. The thing was actually an

old beater, but it worked perfectly for hauling around hay and

feed and manure from the small barn for the goats that they’d

constructed. As if the chickens in their coop could sense the

excitement, they clucked and squealed in their enclosed little

yard.

“It’s official. I’m soaked in my own sweat,” Adalynn said as

she hefted off another bale. The things looked small, but they

were heavy as heck.

“That shouldn’t be such a turn-on.” Cassia grinned and

reached for another bale.

Adalynn wiped at her forehead. She had her hair done up
