drowned in them, there isn’t anything anyone can do to change anything.

You can’t get those years back and you can’t undo the decisions you made.”

“Right. Which is why I haven’t ever told them. Because I could never

undo it.”

“Kiera.”

“Wynn.”

They sat and eyed each other for what felt like forever. The air practically

crackled between them. Wynn didn’t back down, but he wasn’t forceful

either. At least not in a bad way. He just wasn’t going to let her off the

hook. He wasn’t going to let her take the easy way out because it was

comfortable. He wanted her to make the right decision for her. Not what the

rest of the world thought it might be.

“I’ll tell them.” Kiera let out all the air that she’d kept trapped in her

lungs for what felt like minutes. No, not minutes. Years. She was pretty sure

she’d been holding her breath for years and years. Decades even.

Wynn’s face immediately softened. Not because she’d given in, but

because he knew all along that she needed to do it. For herself. For her

family. Because she’d always known that living a lie was no way to live.

“Do you want me to come with you when you do?”

“No. But thank you. I have to tell them alone.”

“And Romi?”

“I don’t know, Wynn. We were seeing each other and I broke it off with

her. I told her that it wouldn’t be fair for me to be with her when I couldn’t

tell my family.”

“And it wouldn’t have been, but if you’re willing to make change happen

and you’re in a different position, don’t you think she’d like to know?”

“I don’t know. It was pretty final.”

“Nothing is ever final,” Wynn scoffed. “That’s another thing you learn

when you get to be as old as I am.”

“You’re not that old.”
