awkward. She was just as calm and undaunted as ever. It was Romi who felt
like the room was closing in around her. “I wanted to say that I could help
on Saturday. I could go through the boxes of stuff before then and find
some nice cups and saucers and tea pots. You could approve everything, of
course, but I wanted to spend some time getting it ready and I’m sure I
could fit it in. I thought it might be a nice touch to put out some of the
books and little ornaments that I’ve been arranging. Maybe we could set up
an area with hutches and taller pieces surrounding the table, like a real
living room. I could put everything on them. Make it really homey. Maybe
we’d make
some sales off that too. Oh, and doilies! We have tons of them.
And nice table cloths! I’d be worried about spills, so, again, I could set it
aside and you could approve it. If that’s helpful. If it’s not, just, uh, we don’t
have to do any of that. I just thought…yeah. I’ll shut up now.” Romi
pressed her lips together and clenched her hands at her sides, but to her
surprise, Kiera’s lips actually arched into a small smile.
“I like that. Wynn’s right. You have good intuition about the job. If we
could use the pieces from the main floor, that would make it easier on the
guys. And I don’t have to approve the things you choose. I trust you. That’s
a great call to have it all ready. I’ll wash it the day before and make sure
everything gets sanitized.”
“What about flowers? Do you want some vases and flower bowls?”
Kiera considered that then nodded slowly. “Yeah. That’s a good idea. Set
them aside and I’ll see about ordering some flowers.”
“I could do that too. If you’re busy. I could even pick them up on Sunday.
I assume that someone has to be here. Uh, you don’t have to pay me for
that. I can just drop them off. Sorry. I wasn’t trying to make hours.”
“Of course I’ll pay you for it.” Kiera picked up an antique stapler that
actually didn’t resemble a stapler at all, but Romi knew that’s what it was
because she’d asked Wynn about a similar one she’d put out. “That’s very
