When their mouths met, the kiss wasn’t like anything Romi had ever
experienced.
She knew it would be different. Nothing about Kiera was even close to
ordinary.
Chapter 14
Kiera
Kiera was certain that she was out of control and crossing every line,
business and otherwise, but she couldn’t stop herself. She couldn’t tear
herself away from Romi. She couldn’t stop herself from initiating the kiss
in the first place. The fact that she was going to have to erase some of the
store’s security footage later wasn’t lost on her. Her past wasn’t lost on her.
Nothing was lost on her. Everything they’d just talked about was true and
inescapable, but so was the fact that she couldn’t talk herself out of or
rationalize her way out of the connection she felt.
It was ironic that she was afraid to risk her heart, but the very thing she
was trying to protect refused to be protected.
So instead of tearing away and running, putting safe distance between
herself and Romi, she brought a shaking hand up to her smooth, soft cheek
and deepened the kiss. Her other hand swept to the small of Romi’s back
and drew her up closer. She whimpered low in her throat. The kiss changed,
becoming more eager, more desperate, until they were devouring each
other’s mouths.
When their teeth clashed accidentally, Kiera pulled away with a shaky
laugh. It came out all wrong. Husky. Not embarrassed at all. Instead of
pulling away, Romi dropped her face to Kiera’s neck and kissed a gentle
trail to her earlobe. When she flicked her tongue at the sensitive lobe, Kiera
sucked in her breath loudly. When she bit down, scraping her teeth along
the skin gently, Kiera groaned.
“I don’t want to stop,” Romi whispered. Her tongue traced Kiera’s
jawline in between little peppered kisses. She used her hands like she used
