“Um…are we good?” Chloë asked. “I mean, you don’t…you don’t have any regrets about last night, do you?”

Morgan’s eyebrows shot up. Putting her coffee mug down, she then placed both hands on Chloë’s shoulders and looked straight at her.

“No!” she said, knowing she was using her teacher voice. “Last night was amazing!”

That earned a little smile from Chloë.

“It was, yeah,” she murmured. “But I mean…I guess I’d understand…”

“What?” Morgan prodded gently.

Chloë took a breath.

“I guess I’d understand if you never wanted it to happen again. I mean, because you’ve never…you know…with a woman and maybe it’s not something you want more of?”

Yes! I want more of! Lots more of!

“Chloë, listen to me,” Morgan said, wishing she could turn off the teacher voice but, hey, some habits are impossible to break after nearly fifteen years. “I want more of what we did last night. Lots more.”

“Really?”

“After what you did to me last night, it would be cruel of you to cut me off now.”

Chloë giggled.

“Now…would you like some coffee before I lead you to the sofa and do that thing I know you especially like?” Morgan offered, getting even wetter thinking about.

Chloë giggled again.

“Yes, please,” she said.

Morgan turned and extracted another mug from the cupboard.

“How do you take it?”

“Black is fine.”

In a moment, Morgan handed Chloë a mug of coffee. Chloë sipped it and then made a face.

“Oh my god, Miss Banks! What is this?” She was looking down at the liquid in the mug as if it had just been poured from a rusty faucet in an abandoned waste treatment plant.

“Um…a French roast from Whole Foods, I think?” Morgan replied.

Chloë shook her head.

“No, no, no. I’ll bring you some coffee from La Vida Mocha the next time I come over.” She looked at Morgan’s coffeemaker next. “When’s your birthday?”

“Next month. April.”

Chloë sighed.

“That’s too far away.”

“Why is my birthday important?”

“Because we need to do something about your coffeemaker. That…” Chloë pointed at the offending appliance on the counter behind Morgan. “…is a piece of junk. You might as well brew your coffee in the bathtub.”

Morgan started laughing.
