In any case, she’d been looking for a boyfriend ever since, she now told Chloë.

Chloë propped herself up on her elbow and looked at her.

“You haven’t been having sex with anybody since then?” Chloë asked.

“No, I have,” Morgan said. “I’ve been dating and sometimes those dates led to sex. But when I’ve been stuck in a particularly long dry spell, like I was until I met you…”

Morgan hesitated, not sure she wanted to explain what she had been about to explain, but then decided it didn’t matter.

“I have a friend named Clint,” she told Chloë. “Clint is—”

“Your fuck-buddy?” Chloë asked, straight-faced.

Morgan laughed.

“Yeah, I guess that’s what you’d call him. God, it feels so juvenile when I think of calling him that, though. The man is nearly sixty, after all.”

“Dude, it’s cool. I have a fuck-buddy too.”

“You do?”

Oh, god…what if it’s Vanessa?

Morgan felt her stomach drop because if that was the case, it was game over. There was no way she could compete against the likes of Vanessa. She imagined that even if Chloë got married one day, if Vanessa wanted a night with her fuck-buddy, Chloë would come running.

“Who?” she asked, but then quickly added, “I mean, not that it’s any of my business. Only if you want to tell me. Which you don’t have to! I’m totally fine with that because it’s none of my business, so don’t feel like you have to!”

Chloë shut her up with a quick kiss.

“You’re cute when you ramble. I don’t mind telling you.”

Pleasedon’tbeVanessaPleasedon’tbeVanessaPleasedon’tbeVanessa…

“It’s Sienna,” Chloë said.

Morgan blinked.

“The girl who gave you the tattoo?” she asked. Morgan thought back to that night at the tattoo parlor, at how she noticed the touchy-feely familiarity Chloë and Sienna had had with each other. Now she couldn’t decide which scenario was worse: the goddess Vanessa—so beautiful she looked like she had been rendered by CGI—as Chloë’s fuck-buddy, or Sienna—super-young, super-hip with a super-cool job—as Chloë’s fuck buddy.

She cleared her throat.

“So…do you and her…”

Chloë laughed.

“Don’t worry,” she told Morgan. “Sienna and I always cool it whenever one of us gets with someone.”

Morgan actually breathed a sigh of relief, knowing how silly that probably made her seem. But she was relieved. Earlier, when Chloë had shown up at Morgan’s house, she had agreed to no longer be concerned with how Morgan identified herself, w

hich for Morgan meant they could just enjoy this relationship and see where it led without her having to make some kind of pronouncement to the world. Nonetheless, Morgan could tell that Chloë was still a bit dubious about the whole thing and she couldn’t blame her, not really. But she hoped that, for now at least, Chloë would simply just trust that this is what she wanted.

“What about you?” Morgan asked. “Last serious girlfriend, I mean?”

“Beth. But we weren’t super serious, just steady. She moved to Oregon and that’s why we broke up.

Morgan kind of didn’t want to ask her next question, but she also kind of did want to ask it.

“So…um…am I the oldest woman you’ve dated?”
