Haisley

One week later - Thursday

“Are you ready to go yet?” Elle asks as she walks into the bedroom of the hotel room.

I'll be ready in about five minutes,” I reply checking my makeup in the mirror.

“Hurry up; we have to be at the media event in 15 minutes.”

“I’m coming, I’m coming, calm down,” I admonish, picking up my bag and my phone. I glance down at the screen and see a text message from Saint. How the hell did he get my number?

Saint:Hey, wanted to let you know that some of the specs worked, but there were a couple that couldn’t. I made them as close as possible and when you get back in town, can you swing by the shop so we can look at them?

Me:How did you get my number?

Saint:It’s in your personnel file.

Me:Great, are you going to bother me all the time now?

Saint:Only if I need you. Now answer my question, can you come by the shop when you get back in town?

Me:I don’t believe I’m coming back to town before the Texas race.

Saint:I thought your schedule had you coming back for a day or two prior to the hauler getting loaded to head to Texas?

Me:Again, how do you have access to my schedule? As far as I know, Elle told me that we were heading to Texas a day or two early as there was an additional media event that wasn’t on the schedule. I’ve got to run. I’ll look at the specs when we get to Texas.

I close my phone and meet Elle outside in the living room area of the hotel room. “Ready to go if you are,” I say as I shoot her a fake smile.

“It’s about time. We’re gonna be late; what were you doing?” she asks, looking up from her phone briefly.

“Responding to Saint who texted me.”

“What do you mean Saint texted you?”

I shrug and look at her. “Oh, he texted me about something to do with the specs on the car setup. He was under the assumption I was coming back to town before heading to Texas, which is funny because I told him I would see him in Texas.”

“I don’t know, your schedule was updated yesterday. Come on, we gotta go; we’re gonna be late for the media.”

“Alright, I’m coming.” I join her at the door that she is about to open.

I follow Elle to the lobby of the hotel and through the main doors to the car waiting to take us to the studio.

“How did Saint get your number?” Elle asks as the driver pulls away from the hotel. Thankfully, the event is a short distance away because, let’s be honest, I was making us late.

“He said the personnel file,” I answer as I shrug. “Doesn’t matter. I apparently have his number. I don’t remember putting it into my phone.”

“I added all the contacts to your phone the first week we got here,” Elle tells me as she continues typing into her phone.

“Well, that answers my question, I guess.”

The car pulls up in front of the venue where we are having the event, a luncheon with the employees of a sponsor for the series. INDY series decided to add a few promotional events in addition to my regular sponsorship appearances.

This one is currently in conjunction with CD Enterprises, with the one and only Zander Donovan. We also have a press circuit and signing during the week leading up to the INDY 500. He draws a huge fan base on his own, but also because he is the son of Colton Donovan, one of my idols growing up.

Elle and I exit the car and are escorted into the venue by event staff. Clara McDonald, the chair of the event, welcomes us.

“Haisley, it is so good to see you. How have you been?” she inquires as we shake hands.
