“Do you know what he means?”

She shakes her head. “No, I don’t. I haven’t seen him in two years. I left him after finding him cheating on me with a few of those sponsorship girls. I didn’t care what happened to him after that. I changed my number, moved Grams, Elle, and me into a different house, and focused on my career. I hadn’t seen him until that first day in the conference room.”

“He just rubs me the wrong way, and the way he’s friendly, too friendly, with Bud gives me a bad feeling,” I admit.

“Why do you think they are up to something?”

“I don’t know, but I wish I could come up with a plan to find out. Bud’s starting to catch on to the fact that I’m not supplying the final specs for your setup until the cars are loaded into the haulers,” I inform her.

“Why aren’t you?”

“Because I know him. He’s too adamant about getting these specs, sharing them with Chad’s team. None of them would make a difference in Chad’s setup. He’s finishing higher than you most races, and he’s a foot taller.”

“So, then what do you think they are trying to do?” Haisley asks, finishing her water.

“That’s what I’m not sure about, and it irritates me. I need to find out what it is. Now, with him threatening you, we must go to Hunter,” I reply.

Haisley shakes her head. “No. That’s not happening. It’ll only make him worse. Trust me. He’s a jealous person. Jealous of my fame, my successes. He failed at racing and has no experience being a crew chief or even building a car,” she points out. “But telling Hunter before we know what is going on, will only make whatever the plan is worse.”

I place my head in my hands on the countertop. “What do we do then?”

“We wait him out,” she mutters with a shrug. “He hasn’t made his move yet, and I’m not sure he’s going to.”

“That’s not something I am going to risk you for. I need to know he’s not going to be a threat,” I state. Haisley stands and walks around the breakfast bar. I hold out my arms, and she willingly wraps herself around my waist. “God, it feels nice to have you in my arms again,” I whisper in her ear.

“You’re still an asshole. You’d better promise me that you won’t ghost me again because I really, really like you.” She lifts her head off my chest and looks up at me.

“I’m your asshole, and I promise no more ghosting,” I assure her as I place a light kiss on her lips.

“Good, now we need a fucking plan.” She pulls away from me and walks into the living room.

“What are you doing?” I question following behind.

“Coming up with a plan. I texted Elle to come over to plot world domination.” She laughs as I go back to the kitchen to grab another beer.

“Well, I’m suspended for a week, so how will we put this plan in motion?” I hand her another water and sit down next to her on the couch.

“We’ve got Elle and Mac, so I’m sure we can figure it out,” she replies, setting the bottle of water down. “But I’m going to have to pretend that I don’t necessarily hate Drake.”

I shake my head. “Nope. Not happening. If you think I'm going to stand by and let him think you like him...” I trail off, my anger quickly rising as Haisley puts her finger on my lips.

“Stop. It’s the only way this is going to work, if he even believes me. We need to keep it ‘friend zone’ at the shop, and I’ll try to see what he wants while you and Mac attempt to figure out what he and Bud may or may not be up to.”

I pull her close to me. Well, I pull her so she's straddling my thighs. “I don’t like this idea.”

“It’s the only way any of this will work, Saint,” she replies, cupping my face with her hands. “Plus, you owe me big if you want me to forgive you.”

I shake my head and grip her hips. “A few orgasms will do that.”

It’s her turn to shake her head. “You need to grovel, and this is one of the ways.” She places a light kiss on my lips.

“Well, orgasms help too, don’t they?” I tease back.

“After we devise a plan,” she counters as the doorbell rings.

“Cockblocked again,” I mutter as Haisley jumps off my lap and I adjust my dick in my pants.
