Walking out of the storage room, I placed the sack of gourmet coffee beans on the counter and began to fill up the grinder. Nick was off, so Sam walked out after me with the specialty beers, to begin setting up the tabs.

It was Saturday afternoon, and in a couple of hours, the beer tasting would begin. Cleaning my hands with a wet towel, I began to wipe the coffee station while Josh took care of the two customers up front before his shift ended.

“Peter’s here!” Josh announced while I removed the coffee baskets, threw away the old coffee and refilled them, hooking them back into the espresso machine.

“Hi, Brax,” Peter greeted, coming in from the back as he tied his apron.

“Thanks for getting here early,” I answered, getting out of the way just as Josh began to prepare a new coffee order. “It’s crazy today.”

“No worries. I had nothing better to do.”

“That’s why you guys need a woman!” Josh interjected. “Preferably not the same one.”

We laughed at that.

“I mean, sharing is caring and all, but no. Hell no.”

Chuckling, Sam finished hooking up the beers and walked around the counter. “My problem is I like them crazy. Even a little bit stalkerish, so that never ends well.” He made a face.

“I need her smoking hot, but sweet too, you know? And spontaneous. Oh! And it would be perfect if she didn’t get jealous of my female friends.” Peter added, returning from a nearby table with his first order. “A little bit of this, and a little bit of that.” He did a little dance with each mention, handing me the ticket.

“Sooo, you want my girlfriend?” Josh teased.

“Oh, shut up!” we all grunted at the same time. The guy was seriously head over heels, but Rebecca was awesome so I couldn’t blame him.

“Speaking of my queen…” he said loud enough for us to turn around and see his girl walking into the café, alone.

“Ready, babe?” she asked, sauntering in tight jeans and heels towards us.

“Hi, Rebecca,” the guys greeted in unison, making her smile.

“Hi, guys.” Her gaze shifted to me. “Hey, handsome.”

I waved at her from the sandwich station.

“So, Josh told me you are looking for a girlfriend and need my help.”

“He did, did he?” My eyes narrowed on him, but he lifted both hands in surrender, holding a frappé in each, then handed one to his girl.

“Yep. About time, if you ask me. But no sweat, I’ll find you the perfect girl, handsome.”

“Is it so bad that I want everyone to be as happy as I am?” Josh defended, and even Rebecca rolled her eyes.

“Okay, bring it down a notch, babe,” she instructed, but anyone could see the twinkle in her eyes at his comment. They had a good thing going, those two.

“Just shut up, and get your ass out of here,” I called back, noticing his shift had just ended.

“My sweet ass?” Josh teased, wiggling his eyebrows at me.

Turning, I placed the hot sandwich on the counter, just as Sam set down the coffee to go with it. “Sorry, I can’t attest to that.”

“I can!” Rebecca answered with an exaggerated wink.

“Ew.”

“Bye, guys. See you Monday!” Josh called back, after handing his apron to Sam.
